halibran_LI.jpg A close friend passed away in March of this year and gifted me his car in his will. It's a 33 Ford . The car hadn't been driven for at least 7 years and my son and I have been going through every system to get it reliable to drive again. The Halibrand question is a simple one , is this plug to check the fluid level and what kind of gear lube should it take? Thanks , Bill View attachment 5142649

I picked up the car July 14 . My son and I thrashed on the car for the last three weeks . We had to go through the motor and buff and polish every thing. The top picture is at a memorial cruise Thursday . Bill

I had a Cyclone for years of daily use. I used 140 wt. to slow the leaks and noise.

:)When John started building the car it had Halibrand Sprints on it. It has Wilwood disk brakes all around and I think there was an inference issue with the Halibrands. My memory is a little hazy because that was way over 20 years ago. Bill

An heirloom piece, never let it go, keep it in the family in his memory.
We receive the love and friendship we give and clearly John valued you highly.

Nice car, sorry for the loss of your friend. I was willed a really cool hotrod when my best friend passed in 2017 - his wife contested the will and kept EVERYTHING...

This is all very emotional for me, but here is some history. Back in the late nineties I'm guessing, John asked me to come to his house to ask my thoughts on what he had in mind. When I got there he had some magazines laid out. One with Tom Prufers cop shop coupe and two others with similar styled 33-34s. He told me he had an idea on how to achieve this particular look. He had been under the body taking all these measurements (This is a glass Outlaw body) The plan was to channel it in a wedge starting at the firewall 1 1/2" to nothing at the front of the rear wheel well. I told him if he didn't do it he would always regret it. So jumping ahead, the issue became that all the sheet metal from the cowl forward didn't fit any more . So once we had everything fitting and looking pretty good the big issue became the frame aprons. Being that the frame was pinched and the sheet metal tapered to the front now ,the stock frame aprons weren't even close . So John asked me if I thought I could make something. After giving it some thought for a few days I told him I needed the car at my garage . After about a month of practice, the pictures below is what I came up with . Sad to here of the loss of your friend. You two must have had a special relationship that now you can remember every time you see/drive this Special hot rod. Enjoy!

Once the car had been on the road for a couple of years with no interior ,we went to the Gasser reunion at Thompson Dragway. In the pits there was a 32 three window with an all aluminum interior including the headliner. John was drooling . The next day John calls me , I answered the phone and didn't even say hello , I said I already know what you want ( I'm wearing a great big smile right now) That's when all the aluminum work started. John was really proud of the work I did on his car and it makes me have a really hard time typing this. My son and I have the car driving again and John isn't here

I feel that Johns spirit lives on in the car . If you squint your eyes and look real close at the pictures above ,you will see John's ear plugs are still hanging from the rear view mirror. That's where they will stay just in case John needs them. Bill
