Ok guys. I’m listing this here before anywhere else. So this is a real deal Carl Kiekhaefer built ‘55 Chrysler 300 Hemi. The engine was purchased from an old hot rodder in Milwaukee with the story that it might be one of Mercury Marine’s old nascar motors. It was very carefully disassembled and documented along the way. All the photographs and internal markings and stampings were sent to Kiekhaefer Chrysler racing expert and author Karl Pippart III who has all the original dyno records for all of Kiekhaefer’s race cars. He also wrote the book on Kiekhaefer’s road racing adventures in Mexico that led to his joining NASCAR This was internally designated engine #25. It was first received from the factory and dyno’d on July 16 1955. I will include all the information I received about build up and testing from Mr Pippart with the engine. It’s believed to be the only surviving kiekhaefer Chrysler engine besides the one in the car at the ford museum. According to the dyno records, all dyno runs were made by Carl Kiekhaefer himself. It’s worth noting the engines were removed, reworked, reinstalled and switched between cars and this is all noted in the dyno records. So, The engine was in Tim Flock’s #300 for the following races in the 55 season: Langhorn Speedway 250 (finished 1st) Raleigh Speedway 100 (finished 3rd) Greenville Pickens 200 (finished 1st) Lehi Memphis/Arkansas 200 (finished 4th) the motor got pulled, honed, dyno’d and Installed in Fonty Flock’s 300 #301 for Martinsville and the car got a DNF for transmission failure. the motor got pulled, soaked with some type of sticky preservative oil, crated and stored. I believe it was purchased from an Auction at Kiekhaefer Mercury in January 1984 after Carl Kiekhaefer passed, but I can’t confirm this. The engine is fully disssembled for inspection purposes. It hasn’t been fired since the last time it was freshened up in 1955. Note it has no serial numbers stamped in the block. The bores are perfect. The rings haven’t been broken in. The main bearing honing is an absolute work of art. The main and Rod bearings show a couple marks from having been turned over once or twice over the years. It’s basically a brand new 300 engine with all correct 1955 300 parts. A couple valves were removed and show no wear. Everything is basically brand new except for being coated in this very very sticky hard preservative oil, some of which I’ve soaked and removed. The engine did not come with a waterpump or a flex plate and no air cleaners. It is otherwise complete. It is all carefully organized and boxed. I’ll include a 392 water crossover and an adapter bell housing that came with it to a Chevy four speed trans. The P/O had intentions of putting it in a shoebox Ford coupe drag car and thankfully that never happened. I have tons more pictures. 19,000 obo or trades.
