  5. Yah, just got this delivered today. 1962 oldsmobile super 88. First time I have bought a car, just by looking at pictures. It was a little over 700 miles away so I took a gamble., and had someone pick it up, and deliver. Pretty happy with it. The 394 fired up and I actually drove it in. Valves are a little ticky but, I think that's sort of the norm for these? Sounds not to bad. Almost 80,000 miles on speedo . Will be changing the oil pronto. I will keep posting progress. Just want to clean up and drive, for now. Will see where this goes.

    Nice! and it's a 2 door.
Run it with a quart of ATF or Marvel Mystery Oil for awhile prior to the oil change. It'll help clean things out and sometimes will free up sticky lifters. May have been awhile since the last oil change,

When compared to a Hotrod Model A Coupe these analogies may be applicable...Longer Wider and Lower and great for skirts and lowering aka Mild Custom...Get the Lace out!!

  17. I’ve had a couple of ‘62 - ‘64 two door s like that. Always loved all that shiny trim and the factory interiors. Nice but!

    Yeah baby!

Needed for those Sky Rocket launches.

  19. Well a little progress yesterday. Changed the oil and added a little top end lubricant. Cleaned the air filter and put in a new filter. I don’t really here any stuck lifters. All I hear is a little loose rocker arms. I have adjusted chevy before but never an olds.
Anyone no the procedures for adjusting them?

I would like to know before I change the valve cover gaskets, as they look like there leaking a bit.
Anyway going back today to start taking the front bumper off, and replace the parts that are banged up.The guy I got it from sent along replacement parts. Which is something I wasn’t expecting in the deal. Bonus!

I think the Olds rockers are shaft mounted with no adjusters, so not able to adjust them.

  21. Yah Aguess you have to take the whole rocker arm assembly off and have the rockers ground.
The motor has just under 74,000 miles. So going to leave-for now. And just replace the gaskets

A friend had a 62 Super 88 soft top. As a Ford guy, I LOVED THAT CAR. Still do. Good on you! For it's size & weight, that thing would haul ___ Super cars, pun intended....

Don’t forget that 74,000 was wore out back in the day. It’s easy to forget since today’s cars regularly go 200k.

    Nice car. Enjoy.

  26. Thanks for this bit. I will check it out when I replace the gaskets.
Started taking the front bumper off yesterday. As it is pretty banged up an rusted on the corners. Will be replacing the cast piece on the driver front fender as well. Nice that the owner included these parts. Aguess he was going to do it but never got around to actually putting them on.
Wouldn’t be working on it for a few more days. But will add some pictures later

I think, not sure, that is Olds Hydraulic lifter normal noise. I do know GM made an additive for that. Might check with a GM dealer ????
