First off been awhile since i've been here...bought a 55 chevy recently and am trying to figure out the right rear wheel combo. it had 10" rims with a 2" BS that stuck out WAY too far. Trying to get that right look of the tires (295-65-15) to sit right...preferably right at the edge of the lip..

    I think American TT's have a 3-1/2" bs on their 10" wheels.

if your weld cut grind friendly a rear spring relocator kit on those cars allows you to run tire all the way to the stock frame rail or inner tub , places the spring under the rail ,, ive done a half doz of em over the years you have to relocate the spring pads on the rear as well , they are cheap i never save the old ones and just match up the angle if nothing else is changing ,,

measure, and remeasure usually helps a lot in figuring tire/wheel combos - going to at least need cheater slicks if planning to run on the street - I just put on slightly larger tires on rear of my '63 Nova - found out that I did not take into account that the exhaust system had rubbed against old tires and even worse now - found out that the cost of exhaust work has really gone way up

295-65-15 tires on an 8" wheel is going to suck the sidewalls in quite a bit. Might be tough to get the tread sitting flat on the ground with the narrow wheel. Probably find the outside edge of the tread makes very little contact.

Lots of guys running tri 5 Chevys in competition and especially nostalgia like the SEGA Series. They can be a wealth of info.

I'm with saltflats on this and I'd bet many others are, too.
Is there a reason or a set of rules that you need to follow?
Take a second and third look and decide if your ride has to
look like damn near everyone else's "gasser". I think the basic
    car is dynamite.

How can you call 'that' a Gasser??! It ain't got no straight axle under it!!!!!
    J/K!

    I'm with you.........need to 'tuck-your-stuff'....under the body.
IF its a street ride/cruiser all sortsa things will be flung up and mess up the paint of that sweet body.
It looks pretty trick right now but..a few hundred miles on city streets and highways will eat up a nice paint job!
I like fabricator johns idea...spend some bux now and narrow the rear and mount the leaf springs under the rails.
I just love spending other peoples money!! (acting like a democrat:()
