Picked up this ‘65 Plymouth Belvedere hardtop recently and wondered if anyone recognized it or knew any history of it. Looks like it was a street racer or drag car - has tow tabs, fenderwell headers and radiused wheel arches. Currently running a rowdy solid lifter 383 and a column shifted reverse manual valvebody torqueflite. I changed the wheels from the Centerlines it had but is otherwise basically how I got it. 6B669515-4A8A-41E4-BB7B-CB5FE434637C.jpeg 5006B9EF-2AB7-4F40-AEB4-7FEEF768760A.jpeg BD7EBC5E-8901-495E-AF90-94FEEFE66416.jpeg

Gotta love the function over form radiused wheel wells. Would love to hear a sound clip of it running.

I've said this before; "I'd drive it to work"!

Thanks for the comments. It’s definitely function over form - the inner fenders have holes gas axed in them for the headers. I’d guess the initial work was done in the 60s with the headers, gauges and tow tabs, the traction bars and some of the engine stuff was probably later. I have a sound clip - how do you post video?
I’d drive it to work too if I wasn’t working from home!

  10. I don’t recognize it but it sure is sweet. Actually, “badass” would be a more appropriate description. I’m a little jealous.

Let me guess...........Torker intake, Holley double pumper and a whopper cam? Column shifted reverse valve body should be a trip to shift. Rather unique. Should be lots of fun learning this car's habits.

LOVE IT. A guy I was in N G with had a 65 Belvedere with a 383 built by some Ram Charger guys. I don't think it was ever beat by any local cars in cluding a full house 409 in a 59 Chevy.

Drive it to some local cruises like Bobs Big Boy in Burbank, Donut Derelicts and Supercar Sunday, someone may recognize it and know some history. Also, Fall Fling is on in Van Nuys this year so another possible source along with Spring Fling. Maybe even the Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield. Lots of hot rodders around, maybe one will remember getting beat by it.

  16. Looks like big fun to me! :p

If it was one year older you could've had the push-button transmission.
    :p

Tough when there were a lot of them like it in the LA area when I grew up; that’s a popular color if I remember. I thought they had the best style with the changed top pillars but never looked to buy one . A friend has a 426 wedge like it with 4.50 gears and an automatic….. it was an absolute terror. Do the numbers indicate a hemi or 426 was in it from the factory? Might help.
