Geez.. you guys are going to shame me into doing my bed again. Hey Willys, that's not a 53 bed is it? I thought they went to the flat sides in 50 or 51.
I just posted this on another thread. Its on the hillbilly/boofer side of the spectrum from the OP's beautiful work. Mine's coated with a mix of Pa. Crude oil and used motoroil on local white oak.
Yep, that's an official '53 bed. '48 thru '54 were pretty much the same Advance Design save for door handle, wiper placement, and in '54 grille change.
here is the bed wood I made for this truck. I milled the wood from the red oak tree that crushed it. the repair build thread here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fixing-a-smashed-31-model-a-pickup-cab.1143362/
Not to steal your post but I went to a lot of trouble to keep my bed clear, no battery or gas tank access thru the wood. I straddled the driveshaft with the gas tank and installed two outlets, the battery is also under the bed, I had a custom hinge bent to raise the bed, and I ran the tank filler out the side. I made leather pulls to lift the bed and a magnet to hold it down.
