I've told the story on here before but what the heck. Mickey & Art built their cars in their parents single car garage. They were local legends and we all "knew" them or wanted to. On the block where they lived there was The National Guard Armory on one side where there was a great dance every month or so. On the other side of the block was the Rec Center that had another dance. We would cruse the dances and go by Himsl's place to see if the garage door was open like it was many summer nights. One night they were putting the Moon Shiner back together after a fresh paint job, purple and lime green metal flake. Art was torquing the heads, I think the block was metal flake purple too. Art was proud of what I think was his first metal flake job and was telling us about it. I think it was the first one I had seen and was certainly the closest I'd been to anyone who could paint like that. I was very impressed but being a smart ass I asked if he had painted it with a broom. He chased me down the street with the torque wrench. I'm pretty sure he meant business. Like most big mouths I was pretty fast back then. I got to know Art a little better a few years later. He even told my son some stories that made him think I was cooler than I ever was. I do wish I had never sold him my '40 sedan delivery and for at least one weekend on an East Bay Rods trip he wished I hadn't sold it to him too. I told him the engine was shot. It liked to make emulation from the oil & water.:(

This one also closed in the tailgate. Never understood shaving everything but leaving the handles. Maybe they don't want to deal with getting in when the battery dies. But then that's why you add a hidden cable pull. Oh well, to each their own. Still a rad truck.
