I've had terrible luck trying to fabricate, or locate a replacement. This is what is in the colum of my 59 Galaxie. I dont know if it's a factory piece or out of another car. It was originally an automatic, but was converted to 3 speed colum shift in the 70s.

The plastic springs were riveted to the steel ring. 20200722_155939.jpg

This is the ring, you can see the two riviere holes where the origional plastic springs went. I tried to make the white spring work....but no dice. 20210803_173341.jpg

And the back of the steel ring 20210803_173347.jpg

There are no part numbers on it.

Anyone have any ideas, I'm tired of being that guy driving with the blinker on.....fits my age bracket I guess.

can you take a picture or two of the end of the column, showing the whole housing that the switch is in?

doesn't look like the pic of an NOS 59 ford car turn signal switch. at all.

I wonder how well a 3d printed copy would work.

  4. I agree with Squirrel, that's probably not the right switch. That replacement cam is definitely the wrong part, the squared-off hole in the center is supposed to engage on the pivot pin for the turn lever. Are you sure you have a '59 column? Some pics of the switch assembly and column would help with IDing it.

I know its the wrong part, I was just trying to make something work (which it didn't).

Ignore the colum shift with pink grease around I made that on a lathe.

Your steering column is not for a 1959 Galaxie

  10. You guys have self canceling blinkers?

  12. Do the turn signals themselves not work? Or do they just not cancel when the steering wheel returns to its centered position?

Is there a cancelling cam similar to the ones at the link below that's attached to the back side of the steering wheel?

Are you using the stock steering wheel?

    It's this.

And it may very well be a 1959 Galaxie column. This is a 1960 column. PXL_20210804_022223876.jpg

They work, but do not cancel. Loud exhaust makes it not really possible to hear flasher. Stock steering wheel.

I bet that would work if I changed the entire assembly. Mine has the switch to the right of the column. Turn signal stalk bolts on.

What does the back of that plate look like? How does the turn signal stalk attach? That looks like it would work! I wonder if what I have is an aftermarket unit? No part numbers on mine.

There is a pin sticking out. The turn signal arm screws into that pin.

The switch that it actuates looks exactly like yours. There is a slider with a black plastic pin sticking back towards you. there should be a circumferential groove in it for the cup clip, and spring.

See if you can get a measurement from the pivot hole center, to the center of the switch slider pin.

I think they made a major change to the cancelling system in 59.

I didn't have to remove the wheel on my 59 edsel, so I don't know what it looked like in there. I was impressed with how well the shifter and turn signals worked on it, though.

  25. Well, it appears you have a bastard switch. I did find this... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1440640705...MIh4yltNiW8gIVfBatBh1YQgwEEAQYAiABEgJTdvD_BwE ... that's listed for a '59-61 Ford and is NOS, but the price is rather stiff and it doesn't quite look like yours, but that may just be because it's a newer version. It is a complete assembly. It's also possible that you have a '58 column/switch.

I also looked up Grant steering wheel adaptors and one bit of better news is the '58-62 Ford full-size all use the same adaptor kit, #4268. So the steering wheel interface with the switch is the same for those years. The actual switch seems to be common, but the cancel cam set-up varies a lot by model/year and the newer versions might retrofit back. This was also the period when Ford started transitioning from bolt-on turn levers (which is what you have) to screw-in type, so if looking for an alternate switch keep that in mind.

I picked up a bunch of those type of switch over a couple years because I was too cheap to spend 300$ on a new one. Mine always had the same problem, no R brake light. I could clean the contacts in the switch and it would work for a bit. Finally a new switch turned up on eBay that was less than 200$. I jumped on it. The one I received must have been an upgrade because it didn't look like the original, more like a 62 switch. Even had to grind the housing a bit to let it sit flat. No problems with it since then.

    Story of this car Steve!

2.6" center of the switch to the center of the stalk shaft.

I've looked at those Falcon ones with the nice metal tangs. My signal stalk bolts on, but I could buy a threaded one and paint it if that makes this work. 16280852996524912785919957796345.jpg
