I have a bunch of nice documentation on putting 52 Chevrolet rear brakes on the rear of a T. I know nothing about early Chevrolets. I had the backing plates water jet cut and bought readily available new parts. Need to machine a couple more pieces and source a few more parts. I am leaving the self adjusters off and need to source the ebrake brackets.

Does anyone know what models and year range are same as 1952?
Only issue with this setup is water. They fade quick when wet

Unless I am mistaken those are 51/54 Chevy 3100 truck. = 1/2 ton six lug. It looks like the plan is to run late 20's early 30's Chevy wires.

as far as parts interchange...I think you'll find that 1951-1958 chevy truck rear brakes are all the same. The shoe width increased from 1-3/4 to 2" in 59, and were very similar through about 1963, then they got self adjusters. The parking brake stuff inside the brake should be the same from 51 through 1970, iirc.

    here's one reference

    Not truck
    5 lug bel air
This set has McClarion 6 lug wires, original T speed parts in the day. Was a replacement for wood spoke rims. The 5 lug drums are drilled for the 6 lug bolt pattern. The set I am throwing together will be 5 lug 26/27 large drum T rear axle.

yes, banger T engines in these . I don’t mind sharing anything on this project, not my design and it’s not perfect. But I was impressed as hell when I saw this setup and started asking questions. Fellow worked all his life in the Indy car trade. And you can tell in his work. He is retired and having fun.

  9. Don Bell who was a long time San Fernando Chapter member did a few of these on 26/27 Ts. He did use truck brakes. He also put Nash Metropolitan brakes on early cars. We lost Don some time back so his knowledge is gone. He was a master at making Ts drivable. His 12 would do 60 mph all day long

I have heard the Nash brakes work well but getting the parts is not very easy

cars used the same brakes as trucks, aside from the drum being 6 lug on truck, vs 5 lug on cars.

Could someone with more knowledge than me please run a copy of this over to the "August 2021 bangers meet thread"!! Good info for the "T" members!

I could have shoved it there to begin with, I thought it would get more eyeballs in the main as I am looking to source the chevy parts. I can add to the banger thread or someone move it, fine with me.

I put 55 Chevrolet car brakes on my speedster 32+ years ago with the same configuration as yours. Takes a little effort to get all the air out of the system but they work great although you have to remember with rear wheel brakes only, it is real easy to lock up and slide. Kind of a like riding an old motorcycle. They are a bit touchy when wet. speedster4.jpg Dan Mceachern is producing those brakes now.

Could drill Some holes along the bottom edge of the backing plate to let the water out.

Most guys do it for looks or to let heat out but I’ve also seen people have good luck using them
    To let water out
