History Miss Taboo - 56 Chevy custom

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Taboo56Chevy, May 22, 2018.

  1. I sent you a PM and we can look at working something out. I know Taboo is probably itching to get out from the corner of the shop, lol

I knew Chuck from as far back as my memory allows me. Great guy and loved black cars! I remember being in his garage out in Camas and I lost count of the black vehicles. PM me a picture of your car if you get a chance.

  5. Surprised I never shared this video before. Made is over a decade ago. This is full of photos and some video of the day we bought and brought the car home from Ron's place. The video was a high school class art project.

Cool I never noticed the pancaked hood, suicide doors, and shortened trunk lip before. :)

  7. yeah those were all done in the early 90s restoration. The trunk and doors were done really well, they still shut like the factory could have done them.

the hood on the other hand was a complete mess. We had to do alot of rework on it and almost could not save it. The latch system was not thought out and really tweaked the hood, the whole hinge system built to have it flip forward was clunky and had been repaired multiple times. So we put stock hinges back on it and redid the whole latch system so it would open more like a stock 56.

  8. Well today marks the 11th anniversary of the day we brought Taboo back home. Cant believe its been that long already. Time flies when having too much fun with this car.

  9. Well today is 7 year anniversary of the first time Taboo rolled out the garage under her own power. Had to get it outside for pictures for car show applications. This is when the scrambling to get the car done began as we still had quite a bit to finish in only a month or so.

So here are the pics and video I took 7 years ago today

  15. With being in the time frame the Portland Roadster Show would be, been looking back through some of the old setup photos I have taken of Taboo over the years since we completed the restoration. I really love the atmosphere of show set up and always liked seeing displays going up and seeing the high dollar show cars actually running and all the attention to detail and cleaning people are doing.

Hi, sorry for delay. I am trying to buy a 409 from a fellow, he works out of town. If I am successful on purchase I will contact you on heads. My brother lives in Glide OR and I live on the WA border in BC. Thank you

  19. Well had a blast with Taboo at the Spokane Speed and Custom show. Was great to finally have a show again and Taboo picked up right where it left off with picking up hardware. It was a great weekend catching up with friends and meeting some new ones!

Came home with Best in Class (Early Custom 1955-1964) Best Kustom and Outstanding Display

Cool on picking up the awards at Spokane. I'd say that might be the "we've heard about it but never seen it before" car at that show. My ot road burner is still laid up so I didn't make that one this year.

Taboo is a beautiful thing...congratulations on the continued accolades...well deserved...

  25. Well was supposed to be at Hotrodarama but emergency family things popped up last minute forced us to stay closer to home. Was able to sneak out for a few hours Saturday morning though and take Taboo out to the local cars and coffee for hot rod & custom day. Was parked up front with some other Portland Roadster Show Hall of Fames cars. Was a fun morning with people not used to modified vehicles, but wanting to ask about the mods and why they were done instead of just the usual rude comments about cutting up a car.

Repeat after me; "It takes a real man to cut up a car"

The "expert" comments never end. About 40 years ago, the local car club had a small Sunday show in the bank parking lot. Two young guys (mid-20's, had the general demeanor of "unemployed construction worker") were negative comments about all the cars on display. I watched them drive off in a battered, severely sun faded Mercury Comet - the headliner was hanging down in strips.

    Thanks for the great pictures.

  27. Yeah, used to that at most normal classic shows. I was prepared for more as the cars and coffee event is usually a mini concourse event full of restored Porsche's, Ferrari's and other sports cars and exotics. Never many rods and custom. So I was really surprised at how nice everyone was and just more curious about the car and asking questions than just being negative.

  28. Well this was pretty cool. Got both of the tri fives got blasted out on Danchuk's newsletter email, surprised they used the 56 at all since there is not much tri five stuff left on the 56.

  29. So last week while posting some Taboo pictures on one of the many custom car pages on facebook. An artist named Jeff Allison commented with a really nice piece of art work he did of Taboo. I was lucky enough to buy the original so I could give it to my grandpa for Christmas. Jeff seems to do alot of other rods and customs, so check him out.

Jeff is a rather talented artist, even designed Hot Wheels for a time. Always has new things on his other pages, working with Jimmy Shine right now. Great that you scored the original!
