What's it? 1962 air date. Funny, he said it was a 'rear engine job', then proceeded to put gas in, at the back.
Andy Devine was great in this episode. He knew everything… rear engine job with a front engine cracked me up…I’m pretty sure I know few guys like the character he played today…..
Back in the early to mid 1960s,a lot of the imports from late 50s were EZ to get cheap or even free for hauling them off. So us being car guys an racers ,made a racing class for them called Mini Stocks at most oval tracks. So lots of customized VWs,English Fords,Renaults,Fiats,Datsons, ect. got cut up in too Ministocks. Very fun low $ class to race in. ! The Caravelle was Renaults almost a sports car*,with hard top and folding top. But the metal Renault build these cars with was very thin an rust in the USA was hungry! My buddy an I built a few very fast Renault Dauphine's,so tryed a Caravelle . Like all of these French beer cans,it had rust! It was on jack stands an we were gutting it out before adding roll bars,an the hard top was over the other side of shop. Rob reached over an tryed to open a door $%$#@&*# the car broke into two parts; front was on one side of jack stands an back on the other ! Door latchs was all that held it together< nope we did not make a racer out of that one,LOL We did race a number of 1956/7 Dauphine's,even won 9 main events in a row at Hollywood Speedway with one my self, not as much power as my V8's,but little 4cly things could corner like JACK the BEAR,with custom set up.
