Lots of progress today. Back from vacation and was super motivated and focused.
With the floors done, I mounted the body to the frame, installed the gas tank (which is pretty clean now) dash, steering column, and windshield.

My wife is working on the doors and body paint. Keeping the patina. Just trying to even it out a bit.

I still need to solidify my seat solution. Not sure I am happy with putting a 95 dodge caravan seat in this ‘almost’ completely stock/original/traditional 1940s(ish) hot rod.

    Still no shocks.

More sketchy yard driving in the 31 roadster. Doorless, shockless, caravan seat ratchet strapped to the floor. So much Fun!

Yeah, Lucy loves to go for Jeep rides. She is so used to jumping into the back seat of the Jeep that she tries to get to the back seat of everything. The first time I tried to take her for a ride in the coupe she jumped in and then bounced off of the rear window three times trying to get into the back seat. It was a bit chaotic in the little coupe cab for a few minutes. I plan to get her used to riding in the roadster.

I’m still looking for a seat, shocks, and a pair of 1931 Maryland tags.

I was on my way to a Model A club meeting in Boonsboro, MD when I stopped for gas in Middletown. My starter jammed against my flywheel when I went to start it back up. You might recall this has happened to me before. Unfortunately I’ve learned it’s a bit of a common thing with Model As. I had all the tools to fix it but I was in a hurry and accidentally shorted out my battery cable and fried some of my electronics. Stupid mistake. :-/

Yeah. I’ve tried that both times with no luck.
I’m wondering if a new modern style bendix will help.

Not sure yet. I know I melted my ground connection to my battery. I’m wondering if I fried the starter. I’ll dig into it this evening. Lucky I didn’t catch something on fire. I learned my lesson about disconnecting the battery before working on the starter.

D93BB774-1976-48B2-9C8E-44124D4AD6EA.jpeg I removed the starter this evening and inspected the flywheel. There is about a 3 inch section of the flywheel that is missing the backsides of the teeth. It probably jams when I get lucky and it is at that spot when I go to start.

The electrical damage was not as bad as I thought. Starter is not fried. Seems the starter switch was the only thing that shorted out. It was bad because it completely melted my battery ground cable connection. Good thing or it might have even been worse. When it started to spark and sizzle I couldn’t tell what had shorted out and I had to scramble for a 1/2 wrench to disconnect the battery. Not good. Until I come up with a better battery quick disconnect I am leaving the positive leads only snug where I can twist them off by hand on both the coupe and the roadster. I know that is a half a$$ way to do it but it’s temporary. Regardless, I just happened to have the parts left over from work on the roadster starter to clean up and rebuild the starter switch. Back on the road…. Until next time :)

Wife made some progress with her “barn find patina” art project. This is just the first “layer” on the doors. If you recall someone had already sanded and primer’d the doors. We’re trying to blend them back in a bit. I think it’s starting to look pretty good. 43E99531-9EB2-426C-BE1B-BFB70869B8BF.jpeg A8BADDC1-3289-47E0-BEC9-B9AA4EDB6FDF.jpeg
I stuck some gaffers tape on the door to make a quick race number just to see how it’d look. I think I like it. :)
