Hey thanks Tim. I'll have to look and get back to you. Its just some single stage urethane from the local paint shop. Never painted anything before this so I feel like it turned out pretty good haha.
Just saw this one - love the stance! I’ll just follow along for the rest of the build. It’s good to have friends like @PINEAPPLE. I’ve got one that keeps me motivated and who’s skills compliment (and exceed) my own.
You are not kidding, seems to pick up speed every year! He has gotten more work accomplished on the roadster. Hopefully he will update soon. Thanks for the bump on this thread!
Okay gonna try and update this mess a little. We left off a few years ago after painting the chassis. I started on some body work and made the brake lines. Got the nickel-copper line and all the hardware from the stop shop. Those guys are great to deal with. Had to get Pineapple over at Meteor Motors to make a fitting to get the soft hose to the master cylinder.
Bunch of other stuff happened along the way. Got fired, hired, Bonneville trips, kid stuff, OT car problems and projects. This is not a fast process.
Both you and @Willows updating threads! Shit, now I have to go get a couple things done on my car. Hope I can find it.
Some pretty cool new parts showed up. Headers from Gear Drive and a new Offenhauser 1090 intake. I didnt like the way the generator fit the old Edmunds.
Built a throttle linkage out of old model a parts and a later spoon pedal. Also stole my buddy Toms idea for an e-brake and found an old Plymouth handle on ebay.
Oh yeah somewhere in there i chopped some spark plug looms and belled the ends. Then i ran the spark plug wires and started figuring out some radiator hoses. Fit the fan that i built ten years ago and found the right belts. And partied a lot with @PINEAPPLE and @Willows
I had been putting off chopping the insert for a long time so i went ahead and did that. It sucked just as much as I thought it would. It was the worst repop one i had and didnt fit the shell very well. I figured if it screwed it up it wouldnt be a huge loss since it was such a mess to start with. The cross bars were too wide and i had to cut them out and redo them a few times to get everything to sit right. It turned out pretty good in the end.
Then i started figuring out the windshield and the stanchions. I had been putting this off for a long time too. Chopping this stuff up gave me a lot of anxiety.
The frame was broken at the corners and rusted through so i had to make a new section out of another frame.
Then i started on a decklid. I made the skin out of some 18 ga. i had left over from the floors. It went pretty well but then i had some problems with the crown in the center of the panel and it buckled. Long story short i scrapped the first one and started over. I got some 20 gauge and that helped a lot.
Right about the time i was making the second decklid a friend was getting rid of a harbor freight english wheel so i picked that up and used that to get the right crown in the panel. @PINEAPPLE made this rad inner panel a long time ago and decided he wasnt going to use it and gave it to me for some special favors. I went to work mating the inner and outer skins. This also turned out to be a huge job.
Somewhere in there I put the shock mounts and headlights back on and rolled it outside for another look.
Reading this thread has been a good thing for me as I thought I was the only person who takes their time building something. Keep the pictures coming and get this car finished...
Haha, thanks @Dave G in Gansevoort ! It aint like I meant for it to take this long but stuff happens. Chopped up my shifter and got that where I wanted it. Got the dash back in so i could get the final mounting position of the steering box figured out. Of course it ended up in a little different spot so I had to reheat and bend the pedals a bit to clear.
Got the new gas tank in and fuel lines plumbed. Mounted the battery and ran the cables up to the starter. Mounted the heater but I have to redo it. More on that later.
