I bought this old 32 5W body right about a year ago. It came out of nowhere, a friend told me about it and luckily I was able to buy it. In that year, I’ve collected a lot of neat goodies for it, including a nice frame that came out from under 32 pickup I bought here on the Hamb. I recently moved, and the car hasn’t really been worked on, it sat in storage for 6 months while the move happened. I finally brought it home a few weeks back. My wife and I, along with some good friends, went to deuce days located in Vancouver BC back in 2019 and had a really good time. I heard that was the last one, however, I just saw that there will be a 2022 deuce days, so I thought it would be cool to try and get this pile on the road. Half ass because not only will I not be able to make it super nice, I kind of like the fact that it is kind of shitty looking. So let’s see what happens. The car has a lot going for it, but needs it all. Was a hot rod since the early 50’s, has a very nice 2” chop. I do have a ‘57 283 that’s been kicking around from another project that’s all rebuilt. I just need my dad to bore the block and we can put it together. I have a nice 33/34 rear end with 3.54’s I got from my friend Brandon Mead, and Corey Taulbert shortened the drive shaft and torque tube already. @NealinCA machined and F1 steering box for me and I have a rebuild kit for it. Front axle I stumbled across in a yard, an old dropped heavy axle that should work. I have a neat dash and gauges I’ve collected for a while, the car has all the glass in it. It does need a complete floor, which I have a United Pacific complete floor assembly I bought from @Rocket's Hot Rod Garage late last year. I have a very talented friend who is going to install the floor, do some patch panels and just get the whole thing dialed in for me this fall. So, yesterday I dug some stuff out, mocked up to see what I have, what I need and what I need to do. The engine needs to go back a couple inches more, but I need to trim the firewall first. The clutch pedal needs heat/bent to clear the steering column. It needs this and that but it’s all pretty basic stuff. So stick around, I have a year to do this. I think I can, and if I can’t I won’t be too worried. With two little kids I’m trying to not kill myself these days getting an old car on the road but at least it’s a goal. This is how I found it, sprung from a barn and just getting ready to be advertised. This is the 32 pickup I bought here on the Hamb, which had a pretty nice original frame under it I sold the 32 pickup and my old frame to a good friend Chris Carter. He asked me if I could follow up with a guy on Craigslist who had some pickup front fenders for sale. So I met the guy, grabbed the fenders and literally tripped on this axle sticking out of the weeds And here we are today.
Question...what pressure plate clutch did you use to mate the Ford tranny to the Chevy flywheel?? Nice looking hot rod by the way.
great bones to start with...Im sure it will be cool like all the other Ford you own... keep the updates coming.. Thanks for sharing Chris
Isn't it great how just mocking the parts you have, into a semblance of a car, can give you loads of ambition and drive. Going to be a great ride!
Yes, that's a nice beater...perfect for the Blackhills of Dakota where there lived a young boy named......well not quite but that would be a great tune to whistle while your blasting down a back road your way... You have a way @Chris...
That might not work, Chris isn't quite the runt of the litter that would fit well in a chopped and channeled car. But next year he might have to park back in the cheap seats even though that was pretty nice spot on Sunday. Compared to what Tom started with a few years ago and then got his "rough" version crunched on the way back from the 2016 Deuce Days The one you have is pretty primo. Rockets had to do a lot of work to get his back in shape and fix a lot of real bad work in the process. Now I need to get my butt in Gear so I can park in that Cheap seat spot while you move up to the good seats.
