Hot Rods Here's what I've been up to! 57 Ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 53olds, Jun 8, 2021.

  1. Hey all, I haven't posted much in the last few years and boy has life changed! I still have my 60 F-100 which the build thread is on here waay back. A couple years ago I put together this 63 Fairlane 2dr sedan, I swapped a 289 and a T-10 4-speed into:

Well once I started driving it the engine started going south and I realized how rusty this car was..so up for sale it went. Well a friend's Dad contacted me about a 57 Fairlane that they had discovered in a barn, he had done the brakes and fuel system and put a good running 292 Y -block in it. The 57's transmission was bad so he got burnt out on it and offered it to me as straight across trade!! (and kept my wheels) .
So I made the deal. I had the transmission (Fordomatic) rebuilt, tracked down a 4 barrel intake, bought a new radiator as the original was toast, painted the interior, threw some blankets over the seats for now. I lowered it and built an exhaust and just recently got it driveable and took it on it's maiden voyage to a car show/cruise last weekend. Here's some pics of it from when my friend's Dad found it to current.

  2. Plans for the 57 are to eventually build one of these 390 Fe's I have sitting here. The F100 is going to be getting a new heart soon as well, the ol' mopar is getting tired so I picked up a 351W and a C6 for it.
Some funny facts about the 57, it belonged to my now Wife's Grandpa and his brother, they painted the scallops and drove it in high school back in the day. The engine came from a pickup another friend of mine had, and the exhaust manifolds I sold to my friends Dad when he was putting the 292 in it! haha small world I guess.

This February of 2021 I got married, On April 2nd I became a Dad and my Daughter was born! Future hot rodder in training.

Congratulations! A daughter, now you've got like 16 years to find a good shotgun and a rocking chair so you can be on the porch when boys come over, cleaning your gun! Lol...

  15. I really wanted a '57 but the '59 fell in my lap 7 years ago. They are pretty similar cars under the skin.

  18. The best of the '57 Fairlane world imho....tightness of a sedan with the looks of a hardtop. Welcome to the '57 world. As said by RMK57, amazing floors and body..........almost impossible to find in that condition....... Saves thousands of $ and hundreds of hours. 26. I'm considering a future 427 BBC swap for my '59, the hurdle is finding a front sump pan or finding a rear sump that clears the tie rods.
