I traded fastrnu for his modified project that has been sitting for the last few years. I will be finishing the build and posting the progress here. 16262924098668882594797411401699.jpg 16262924465349156662232664441461.jpg

I am leaning towards using a stock 27 T grill shell. I think that if I use the earlier radiator (low height) and modify the mounts I can clear the spring. I can use the 27 grill shell (tall height) grill shell to get the right height of the shell to make the hood fit right.

An other option is to use the 27 radiator and shorten the bottom to clear my spring. There is also the fact that the lower water neck is on the wrong side.

I looked at using a 28-29 grill shell but I would have to narrow it and I don't think it looks as good narrowed. If I use it full width the angle of the outer frame rail will not be right when the hood side. 16263789143771441512518681421748.jpg 16263789853413688523406122366233.jpg 16263790428887263111110436189757.jpg 16263790961607821597220490417400.jpg 16263792935503895947984563007082.jpg

Looks like I found a radiator that can be made to work. I will have to do some modification to the top tank to clear the grill shell and filler neck. 16263926838697693147892586802663.jpg 16263927271101621824873520606083.jpg 16263927550414842390771664977018.jpg 16263927971532494437625189674386.jpg

I was looking at the windshield posts and would like to be able to fold it down for the total wind in face. 1 was looking at modifying the 27 posts with either a hinge at the bottom part of the post or maybe use roadster posts from a 33-34. I will look at it closer when I get to the shop tomorrow. Any thoughts and pictures would be appreciated.

After looking at the 33-34 I saw that they are fixed posts. I looked at the 32 posts and it looks like they might work for this. I'm also looking at 30-31 posts as well. Has anyone else done this on a 27 T? I want to be able to fold it down and possibly have a pair of brooklands style windscreens behind it.

It's got a great profile, and I like the outer frame rail addition. The "T" grille shell would by my choice.

That's what I have decided to go with, just have to do some work on the top tank to make it happen.

  10. Actually a narrowed early A shell looks great. It is not done much but I designed my whole Tudor around that mod.

I have a pair of rims that are aftermarket steel and came off of a Lincoln Mark 8. They had studded tires on them. They are 16x6 and the best part is the drop center part is the same size as the wide five centers. I have 5.00-16s to mount on original wide five rims for the front. The rear will get 7.50-16s on the wider wheels with wide five centers welded in. 16274400242138815458243553506922.jpg 16274400242138815458243553506922.jpg 16274400626907926209727008063431.jpg 16274400242138815458243553506922.jpg 16274400626907926209727008063431.jpg 1627440113625931530290047648187.jpg

I don't know what a Lincoln Mark 8 is, but I want to. What year do we need to look for?

No need to get the wheels off of those cars as they have aluminum wheels. These are aftermarket steel wheels that fit those cars for use with winter tires. They have a dual lug pattern and are made overseas. The center is about 1/4" thick. I do believe that Dorman sells these. The ones I have are stamped with (JINGU 08 10 11 MADE IN CHINA 16X6 MAX LOAD 1500LBS DOT A9018 or A9058)

I got the studded tires removed today and found that a tag with the part number was still mostly intact.

Looks like you can buy this exact wheel from Summit Racing
    Allied Wheels #7066088
Allied 70 series OEM and snow black
    $85 5x4.25-4.50 dual lug pattern
    16x6 4.875 backspace
Hopefully this helps with those that want a widened wide five rim.

Back to the windshield! I'm looking for a 26-27 lower windshield frame. I have pretty much decided on 32 foldable posts but may have to modify the 27 lower piece to have a pivot point to accept the 32 parts.

    Hey, 55W;
    64-66 mustang rad?
Nice fit. Something that size would fit a couple of early "orphan" shells of mine.
    TIA.

It's actually a mid 50's Willys wagon radiator. A variation on the honeycomb radiator. The height and width is near perfect for the T grill shell.

This is the windshield stanchions I was thinking of using. They are for a 32 roadster. I was thinking that the 2" chopped ones might be the ticket. If someone has these on their car, a measurement would be appreciated. 16275433687922511546968730014393.jpg

I looked through my wide five wheels and found a couple cancer candidates for surgery. The centers are decent but the rims are totally gone. On closer inspection the new rims are about 14-5/16" while the wide five rims are 14-3/16. In the light of that I am going to leave the center band of the wide five rims for now until I see that I don't need it. 16276008199197839864081316738143.jpg 16276008586901953859419521730529.jpg

Did some slicing and dicing on the wide five rims. I have a brake lathe that I bought last year for $75 and I am going to use it to set up the wheels. I have a junk Ford Ranger front rotor that I will cut the disc off of and use that to bolt the new wheels to and cut the welds with the brake lathe. I also have wide five front hubs that I will use to chuck up the centers on and turn them down to fit the new hoops. 16276838615421096190061302857563.jpg 16276839499475445124730685629497.jpg 16276839881242447005050265104866.jpg
