Not a SBC but possibly a transplant inline. The 261 was used in Chev trucks and in Chev based Canadian Pontiacs from 1955 until 1962. The 235 and the 261 are totally interchangeable. He is also running a 53-54 intake with the Carter YH carbs. Warren
They actually started making the 261 in 1954 and it wasn't a full pressure oiling system. It has the same motor motor mount bosses on the sides of the block as the 1953 and 1954 235. I've got one bolted in my '53 club coupe.
Those are some startling times for the impressive Stovebolt six! -My '56 Ford 292 was turning 14.20s @ 92-94 MPH back then (Fremont) Official 'Hillary' growled at me the second time they 'looked closely' under Chevy protest: "We ALL know yer cheatin'...Ain't NO Ford that runs thet fast..." All he had to do was degree the cam and look that the pistons were installed backwards. Heck, I was a Porsche mechanic...Thought those 'arrows' on pistons pointed at the flywheel! (heh, heh...) Chevy love...blind...
I like the little scoop on top of the driver side front fender. I assume to allow clearance for the intake, carbs and stacks.
When talking story with Layne, about his 1936 Modern Muffler Kinau 6 coupe people ask what's with the name on the car. He says Fred was sponsored by Modern Muffler a local muffler shop in Honolulu, Kinau was the street Fred live on and 6 was for the six cylinder engine he ran in the car. Got to love it!
