I then got to work on the actual clutch - I picked up a McLeod dual disc setup for this car. While it's way overkill for my application, I decided to use it for the lower pedal efforts. Installation was straightforward.

I think I had the front bearing retainer off my T5 about three times today for various lathe work. First, I needed to shorten the bearing sleeve to get sufficient clearance for the dual disc stack. Then I needed a bit of extra clearance for the hydraulic bearing. Fortunately I had the lathe to make quick work of the fine tuning.

With the engine and trans married, I decided to set them into the frame.

A side note - a while back I designed an air cleaner for the engine in CAD. The body houses two elements for the throttle bodies, along with the OT IAC and Map sensors to keep them out of sight. As I had done on my roadster, I had the entire thing 3D printed. It could've been machined, but that's unnecessary weight on the throttle bodies, and cost from my wallet!

Here are a couple shots of the CAD model:

Today’s post “throttle bodies” & MAP etc…. I want the same kind of twins on a 401 buick. Any maker name & air flow numbers? Not HAMB friendly. Tks.

I've been continuing at getting more small chassis parts in satin black, and chipping away at getting the air cleaner ready to paint. This is the final coat of primer before blocking. The lid is sitting a bit high due to masking of the inside, but you can start to get an idea of the colors for the engine. Now I just need my valve covers back from the plater!

Matt is starting to put down color, starting with the body and the swing metal. I haven't made it over to see the body in person yet, but the photos make it clear that his hard work shows!

I was shooting for Gathering at the Roc (with no interior), but I think the chrome is going to put that beyond. I'm still moving forward in case the stars align though.

I'm real happy with the color. For it being a stock, off-the-shelf code, it fits well on an early Ford.

I got enough parts painted to start assembling the front suspension today. I just need to ream the kingpin bushings, and I'll get the backing plates and hubs on the front.

We had a rare day of no clouds in the sky, so here are a couple shots of the color in the full sun. It's a very dynamic color!

  16. Beautiful car, Cory. Everything about it is integrated and well thought out.

It's also an "old-looking" single stage color, giving further credibility to the idea that it's an "old" hot rod.

  18. Your color choice is both bold and classy and in complete concert with the subtlety of your build. Fingers crossed that you will visit the west coast in the future. Beautiful!

Just along for the ride fantasizing. What if a 16 year old me had hung onto his five window???
Thank you for sharing your story and incredibly fine workmanship and eye for detail.

Since the last update, I had the new kingpin bushings honed so I could continue with the front end assembly. My Lincoln hubs had press in dust caps, and it seems hard to find good reproductions today? I decided to press out the races (I was putting in new Timken bearings and races anyway) so I could cut some internal threads on the lathe to allow the screw in caps.

With that minor machine work done, I moved onto the brake shoes. About this time last year, I picked up a shoe grinder. I had been looking out for one for a while, and with my patience, I was able to find an affordable one. I had previously sent out my shoes to be relined, and had the drums turned as well. After measuring each drum, it was as simple as dialing in the measurement on the machine.

I assembled the backing plates with new hardware before sliding the drums on.

I also got a few other things knocked off the list too. One of them was repainting the air cleaner due to my own fault of disturbing the first wet paint job! With the lid off, you can see the filters and the OT EFI hardware that's hidden inside.

I don't have any photos of it, but the master cylinders and linkages were assembled. I hooked up the hydraulic throw out bearing, bled it, and confirmed a smooth pedal actuation to disengage the clutch.

The front brakes were begging for some attention, so I mounted up the front wheels! I'll get the dust caps plated to look more like the lugnuts sometime soon.

Big day - the body came home from Matt's! I'm very pleased with his work.

Hoping to get it on the frame by the end of the month if all goes well.

One other thing I knocked out the other day was wrapping the Walden roof insert panel in Colonial grain vinyl. I like the muted tone of the Colonial grain, compared to Long and Short Cobra Grain. I'll get the tack strip moldings fastened down this week to finish it off.
    IMG_3826.JPG

I had to put a rear wheel next to the body to see how the colors would look together too!
