This really needs some figures to show it off. Kinda Allard/Coachcraft meet in the middle. A bit ambitious, and maybe dumb, trying to 'de-bulk' one of these lol.. (pencil on paper)

Thanks Stogy for posting during the week..

    Hello,

We grew up in the Westside of Long Beach in two separate old houses. One was a Craftsman Style house a stone’s throw from the end of the 1955 Lion’s Dragstrip final sand berm on Willow Street. The other was a few miles away that lasted until 1998. The whole time, our dad liked where he lived, although he drove every morning to Los Angeles up Alameda Street until the Long Beach freeway was built.

Sometimes, he would take Santa Fe Avenue near our house and end up in Lynwood where it was parallel to Alameda Street that ran into downtown Los Angeles. Santa Fe turned into State Street and turned Eastward, away from the destination in downtown L.A.

While we lived in those two houses, our dad found this cool italian deli that had the best Italian Food anywhere in Long Beach. Despite my mom’s great home cooking, he had a taste for the Italian Foods. Once our next door neighbor brought over some delicious Italian Food to share for dinner, he was hooked.

Our mom tried to make her own Italian Food, but the taste was hard to duplicate. It was easier to just go to the store to get what we wanted with that great quality and taste.(Plus, on those days, she got a night off from cooking…) So, where did he go to get any great Italian food? The long standing Santa Fe Importers store a few miles away.

By the time my brother and I were into the hot rod/drag racing scene, it was fun to go over to the Santa Fe Importers as a lot of the local speed shops (Joe Mailliard, Clay Smith, Speed Engineering, and others) frequented the store for lunch. Even the Mickey Thompson Enterprise offices were next door to the Santa Fe Importers. (1419 Santa Fe Avenue)

“…When we moved again to our last Westside house, it was now closer to the Santa Fe Importers. So, we were in a better location. The giant Bill Williams Welding Company was just in the next block, Joe Mailliard’s Speed Shop was around the corner, and they were all bicycle close. Our dad liked to visit his friend’s pool hall and bar (where I learned to play pool) across the Santa Fe Ave. from this Italian Deli. The Weber’s Bread Factory was also just across the street.”

Of all the times we went to the store for great sandwiches and take out dinners, we saw this cool beige panel van with yellow rims and smooth small hubcaps sitting in the parking lot. But, we never gave it much thought. But, the odd thing was, we never saw it again, even during the numerous times we shopped and ate there. So, in my research, I only found one photo to show what we saw, but never saw again.

Until 1998, when we sold our last, Long Beach house, we can attest to that great food, people, and fabulous, original, community Italian Deli.

74 Years and still going strong...! (Now, two other shops have been opened in Orange County)

   ...The "City of Pasadena"

...with a Vulcan nod...why? That would be because Marvin Lee's Lakes racer reminded me of a Cockpit and forward fuse of a Vintage Jet...The Vulcan

I don't know if any of you ever seen the Vulcan in Flight...it was an awe inspiring experience much like Marvin's Ground Pounder surely would have been...

...which, in combination of today being a friday, made me remember about the hamb.

Here's one from today, though, and it might even become a part of an illustration... i'll think of a better exhaust, don't be alarmed now!

   ...Tuffy's Cousin

I found this in search...It was a 5w Coupe and just loved it's sinister presence and still do...I made it into a Carson Topped, Duvalled, nasty beast of a Roadster...Giddy-up!!

Just followed up...That would be Bob Ida's Hotrod from the late 50s, early 60s

The 409 was shortlived and a Hemi replaced it and a wheel stand sealed the Coupe's fate...
