Keeping all the A-pillar and side angles stock always looks best vs leaning the pillars back and changing the side angles. Nice work on the roof replacement instead of the welding in strips. Looks good and waiting to see more.
Really dig it. A nice improvement over stock. As far as slanting pillars, some cars look better with the B-post slanted such as a merc. This HT didn’t need it or qualify actually. Looks like the proportions the factory should have used. well done.
As I've mentioned to both Tony and Don in conversations, I have rarely seen a chopped shoebox that was an improvement over the factory balance, which of course is the ultimate goal for any Custom. Most are "off a bit" at the least and Hideous in many cases, but just like the HUGE improve the 40 convert has over the factory top (which is an atrocity and a plain chop doesn't help) , the boys are nailing this one as well! Good job my friends!
That is freakin breathtaking! I'm recalling Baskerville's observation, "anyone can restore a car but, it takes a real man to cut one up!" Great initiative and courage Tony and Don. A base clearing home run!!!!!!!!
Great job. Great thread. I want a chop and Carson top conversion. You should make a mold of that one.
The stock '50 grille will remain unchanged (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Changing to '52-53 headlight rings, not Frenched.
That is coming out nice and I well appreciate that you didn't decide to chop it to the point where it looks squashed. Well done.
I'm not trying to bust your balls over this, just lamenting the loss of that 'look'. One thing you and Don do so well is getting the proportions right and with the window opening changes (both the windshield and side glass) the result will no doubt be outstanding.
I get what Crazy Steve is saying, but I have to disagree. On this one, losing the wraparound window looks better than the original. Nice chop.
No offense taken. You like the wraparound window, I like the relatively blind quarter. Purely a matter of personal preference. It's a good-looking car either way.
This is how a chop should be done. With a good eye for style, proportion and flow. And great workmanship, and creativity, in using the Chrysler skin. Job well done!
The car looked awesome before. I too really like the wraparound rear window but that chop just looks so sweet. The profile is awesome. The proportions look so right. Like how above the windshield was thinned out. great work.
Good to see you guys working together again. Always nice to read Don’s posts too. Anxious to see how you finish the area above the windshield. Thanks.
Don - I've always really dug Tony's "50FRAUD" ... so the title of this thread had me a bit afraid to even open it and have a gander at the project ... but I was pleasantly surprised after seeing Rik's concept rendering. As I read through the thread, I found myself liking the project more and more ... and of course, impressed by HIGHWAY 99 Hot Rods' craftsmanship. But it wasn't until I read this post: ... that I really fell in love with the concept & the project ... using some '50s MOPAR sheet metal will add some much needed "class & elegance" to Tony's shoebox FORD
