Sincere sympathy for his family and friends but I have to tell you, he looks like he was someone who enjoyed life!
Condolences to the Perez Family and Friends in the passing of Rudy...he unquestionably had done the Hotrod walk...some very revered rides there... Owning the 404...how cool was that...one of my favorite Hotrods... May he Rest in Peace... Regards, Stogy
From the (January 2018) History of the (Grand) National Roadster Show HOT ROD Magazine article by James Handy: A typical entrant in the Street Roadster Class at the 1956 National Roadster Show was this 1926 Ford on a 1932 frame, built by Rudy Perez. Under the Jack Hagemann hood was a 284 Cubic Inch Flathead with a three carb Offy intake, Offy 8.5 to 1 heads and a Vertex Magneto. The color was Ford Truck Goldenrod Yellow. The car was sold at the show and totaled in an accident in 1957.
Rudy was a track photographer at and frequent contributor to ... here's some of his photos: all images by Rudy Perez
It seems like lately every day open the HAMB and find another thread like this I guess it comes with old age, people our age passing, and now I know why my parents used to check the newspaper (before the interweb) starting with the obituarys, they were checking to see if any of their friends had past on in the night. RIP Mr. Perez
Looks like Rudy lived a good life and shared his talents in many ways, his contributions will Live on. Thank You and Farewell, Hot Rodder!
Rudy was a gem of a guy. Met him years ago and he was always nice to talk to. Several time he sent me pictures of my car a various car show we had attended. RIP Rudy
I didn't know Rudy. Didn't even know of him. But I see him smiling in every picture. Must have been a pleasure to know him. Bless Rudy, family and friends. He strikes me as looking a bit like HAMB Andy here... if Andy had grown up. I bet Andy would have followed in his footsteps, too.
Rudy also freelanced for car magazines in the '60s. A bit off topic for the H.A.M.B. ... but here's some photos he shot of Voss Boretta's "MISS BROADWAY '29" (with "Off Broadway" star, Carol Doda) for Bob D'Olivio at CAR CRAFT magazine: all images by Rudy Perez
Here's Rudy’s shots of John Weston's (Richmond, CA) channeled Deuce Roadster in the Summer of 1959: all images by Rudy Perez
Rudy started attending the Bonneville Nats in 1955. Here's a few of his photos of the Markley Bros #360 Belly Tank Lakester in the pits at the 1966 B'ville Nats: with the Cecato & Jones #1030 D/Gas Coupe & Louie Bonesio's #222 I / Streamliner with Tim Rochlitzer's "True Radius Bending Special" D / Lakester & Louie Bonesio's #222 I / Streamliner with Louie Bonesio's #222 I / Streamliner
