We have found a Caltex bulk petrol tank lid . Just curios as to how these were lifted out. We’re the locked down somehow? The two vertical blind holes don’t allow much grip.
Are there any embossed squares or anything like that around the edge. The two holes reminds me of a screw or twist off lid. Just a guess.
My guess is they used a long handled tool with two prongs that went into the holes, then pried it to the side to tilt one edge of the lid up. your guess may vary.
Very cool lid The lid covered the hole where the filler pipe is at . The cap on the filler pipe has a lock .
Yep. Grew up with these in a small Mom-and-Pop business. Held on by gravity, lifted by hand. Small 8” deep chamber underneath, with filler neck and cap. Padlock on cap. Remove lid, remove cap, dip tank, test for water then fill. cheers, Harv
P.s. they sit on the chamber lip, but not flush to the concrete. As you ride over the on your bicycle, they make a Clonk! noise of cast steel on masonry. Can still hear that sound cheers, Harv
Thanks @Harv it all makes sense now. My pump is Europa but who is counting . Though it may well have had a different supplier earlier judging by the various odd placed rivet holes.
