  1. 19_ _ . You fill in the year, I'm sure there are some real hems out there.

Brenda's 1954 Ranch Wagon was purchased new from Blue Ridge Motors by her Grandmother, it was passed on to her dad and in the 70's it was passed on to Brenda.

    Brenda & her mom.

  3. Since July 29, 1941... purchased by my grandparents when it was a year old.

I've had it since Feb. 1970 and finally got it on the road last year; Cadillac powered now. 40 at Ross Lake.JPG

  4. I have had my Mercury since 1951 when it was involved in A collision
    with a El pillar in L.I.C.,Queens, N.Y.
The Car came off the 59 St. Bridge in Queens in the Winter Slid on the Cobble Stones
and slid into a El-Pillar It wiped out the whole Front of the Car & I
bought it on the Spot and have had it ever since & have had 3 different
Engines in it since than I have other Cars but I always kept this.

    Just my 3.5 cents

Live Learn & Die a Fool

P.S. I had the Merc out Today for about a 30 mile Run it Felt Great , to drive
    again, Dom.

Fifty three years ago yesterday (7/2/68) I bought the Comet Cyclone in my Avitar, I celebrated the event by driving it to Des Moines for the GoodGuys event.
One of my other vehicles was purchased by my father in 1959, It now resides in my possession:

Since January 6, 1980. Bought this 210 for $300 in Wayne Nebraska. 58,855 miles with a dime size rust hole in the passenger floor. It was green/ivory. Tore it all apart except did not take body off frame. It sat that way for 25 years as life happened around me. Finally was able to do with it what I wanted to do back in high school ... make a copy of my Dad's car that he had from 1955-59. I think it turned out OK. Still have days when I'm driving it and just can't believe I got it done.

  11. Bought it at the Street Rod Nationals Ohio in 1978 when I shipped the car to the UK from Kitchener Ontario

Second rebuild which I hated, de -chromed and messed up

Third rebuild from 2004 to now 2021, part of the family.

The family race car, never left my family. My Dad started building his Midget racer after he came home from WWII, it was first raced in 1948 my birth year, through 1974, I drove it from 1970-1974.The car went through many changes, updates and now I have it under restoration back to a 50's time frame, got it to the point of taking apart for finish bodywork, paint, final reassembly. This is my last project car wise, working on my last DIY house project, 3 season room. I'm on the nothing happens fast plan now, everything takes me forever. The picture was taken in spring 1948, of me sitting on his lap. Now as a senior I am amazed how fast time/life has flown by and the clock runs faster every day IMO. I have stated many times, I'm Thankful, Grateful and a Very Lucky man to be here or anywhere sharing my Memories, Priceless. Everyone have a Great July 4. As a side note I have an 89 ragtop, now a nice survivor car I purchased new, like many guys here, some cars I wish I had saved but always needed the money from one sold to buy next one and the thought of keeping one in storage never entered my mind. Foresight 0, Hindsight perfect.

  16. Ok, here's MY two long term hot rods.

My '40 coupe that my uncle "hauled off" for a lady in St Louis back in 1971ish. He gave it to me at that time. I was 5. This photo is my old buddy Dean on and me on the day we hauled it home from St Charles, MO to my house in Springfield, MO in 1994.

This pic is actually from 2014, while I was scouting the route for the first SWMO Hot Rod Hundred. It's been upholstered and got new running boards since.

Duncan mentioned my stake truck. This is a picture from when the same uncle bought my '40 stake truck from the original owner back in the early 70's from out around Ballwin, MO.
HHRathbun2.jpg My great aunt with the truck back in 2011, where she had it stored in south St Louis.

For the last several years, I have worked with some local photographers who use the stake truck in their "mini" photo sessions for their clients. Here's a couple shots I took after the shoots last November.

I have no idea on the date of the first pic, but that is my mom with Dad's deuce sedan. I'm guessing somewhere between '58 & '61.

I've never seen the car together, as it has been apart since around 1962. Currently resides as is in Dad's garage. My brother-in-law and I have offered to build the chassis and get it back together for Dad, but at nearly 80 years old, he has no interest in doing anything with the sedan and says I can do that after he's done with it. I'm hoping that will be quite a while longer.

Dad's '34 at the 1971 Street Rod Nats in Memphis. Left to Right - Jim Tucker, Porky Leake, Dad & me.

41486634_1931509870225985_5944912457733505024_o.jpg As it sat, it had a '46-48 front axle and bones with the front crossmember moved forward on the frame. a '64 327 with a Weiand 2x4 intake with dual Carters on top, a Muncie 318 "Peanut" 3 speed, with a 57 Chevy rear axle on a stock spring.
DSC06972.jpg In 2009, my brother-in-law and I got dad's sedan back on the road for him. Doug moved the crossmember back to the stock location, we put in a Superbell axle, Posies reversed eye springs front and rear, and swapped the wheels for some Wheel Vintiques Gennie's. A couple years later, we swapped out the Muncie 3 speed for a Turbo 350 because dad's knees didn't like using the clutch. In the process, we realized that the guy who built the car had raised the front of the floorboard to clear the transmission, about 3" at the firewall sloping down to right in front of the seats. We built new front floorboards for it out of fiberglass (Doug owned ShowMe Rod & Custom at the time, making glass bodies). Made the car WAY more comfortable to drive.

I've had my 34 Ford 5 window coupe since 78 ? got it from a co--worker, and on the road in 85. Yesterday at the VFW car show, while talking with one of my car buddies, we discovered that it was his uncle that I had bought it from. A really big surprise to both of us. Small world !!

  21. I hear you, as we were on our way to the neighboring town for the 4th celebration and fireworks display yesterday, we actually talked about it still fells surreal after the wagon sat in the barn for so many years and it has been back on the road for almost 10 years. HRP

I have had my corvette for 11 years. Below is a pic of how I got it. 15x8 rally wheels and Radial tires. I couldn’t get those damned radials off fast enough. Also had a horrible beige cloth interior and a billet steering wheel.....

  27. Maaco local to me caters to old car guys. There's a '40 Chev sedan out front right now with rally wheels. Damn, they look so wrong on anything but a musclecar.
