Look at Wheels Through Time on youtube. They have several interesting cyclecars there.

The original had two 996cc JAP v-twins for most of its career. Two 1450cc Harleys would ridiculously overpower a wooden chassis. As it was, it wasn't easy to drive. Bolster famously said "I admit that she’s rather dicey on those tricky straight bits".

Bolster's Bloody Mary was one of the most famous British sprint-special, with the longest racing career the same as its creators...
Through the period of active racing, it has a lot of modifications, reparations, recreations... I doubt if old wooden chassis was kept to the ned of racing days? At first, the suspension was added, then brakes, and of course various variants of engine, suspension, steering, transmission...

For sure, it was my favourite from the first photo that I saw - and, stay my old unrealised dream to make a replica, or better said special made in its style and restricted by my possibilities. Many successful and cute replicas were built, or reincarnations, or whatever...
(with my 71 years, then 188 cm and 107 kg, my versions should be larger a little?)

So, if one engine wasn't enough for a new concurrent, we could add another, the best if both are hot V-twins?
Or, later to add a pair more so to have four engines, at the first four single-cylinder, then four V-twin.
I was always wondering where John Bolster kept his legs with so many engines? In so small auto, even one big V-twin is big enough to leave a small place for legs...

About the originality of the last version - it is original as could be: made by Bolsters and raced by John Bolster, designed and constructed, driven too - in a style of the first version!

It is similar to the story of legendary Trigger from the British cult TV serial "Only Fools and Horses": through his decades-long career, he used only ONE broom for cleaning the city's streets! Only, he dozens of times change all of its "main components"! But, for HIM, it was only one and HIS old broom, so it was the original as he got it the first day he got it on the reverse, signing paper as an obligation to clean streets and take care about broom!

The Maggot is such an awesome lil car, I've been laid up the last couple of days & watched the VSCC hill climb at Prescott which was held recently.

This is Richard Scaldwell's new build, a GN with the OHC Vtwin - 1500cc I believe

 

Bolster's book "Specials" gives the details of his various cars. From '29-'33 Mary ran a single JAP. From '33-'37 he ran 2 JAP engines. After that he put Mary aside and started using a GN chassis with up to 4 engines.

 

Thought I had seen pictures on here of the four engine version back in the 12,000 plus posts of this thread.
