Any good recommendations for steel roof filler/insert on a 34 5W coupe? Walden's is asking $550, surely there is a donor car that is similiar and readily available.

    Thanks,
    Rich

    Just ideas;;
If you have a U-Pick with in go too? Then get your size drawing made up an go find a roof part. I did it a few years back for a sedan/got off a SUV. The yard would cut it off for a extra $30 and $ 50 for the roof part here ion south Fla. But I cut it out with a boyscout axe an 3 pound hammer ,to save the $30 cut bigger then needed(trimed at home). They said don't ever do that again LOL. Maybe there some junked van in the woods?

I used an e36 (92-99) BMW non sunroof roof. Not super easy to find and those roofs are actually saleable to guys building track cars but after a couple dudes flaked on buying mine I cut it up and used it. Nice contour.

Mine is a sedan, so I used a 62 Chevy station wagon roof. Worked great, neighbor should have never parked it behind my garage. 007.JPG

Long ago I once used the roof of a ‘65 mustang on a 3 window. Might be hard to find now.

Had a buddy that used a second gen. Camaro....backwards. Looked perfect. I know I've seen threads on here that mention using them.

  10. Wouldn't help with your plan, but i saved a roof from a late model Tahoe that you're welcome to. Free of charge.

For a 3 window I have used the roof from a derelict Corvair coupe turned backward.

Used a '65 Mustang coupe roof on my 3W. Turned it around front to back, crown was perfect.

53 Stude in mine . It was a perfect fit . There are lots of them that will fit . Just DO NOT use flat sheet stock . I had a Buddy that totally wasted a 35 3W by using flat sheet metal . I told him “he could F#$K up a free meal” after doing that !

A friend was getting rid of a 1941 Ford four door sedan body shell, and let me cut the roof panel off - and that piece has become the roof insert for two 33-34 Ford coupes.

Find a Toyota and get a little revenge! It probably started out as a 32 ford anyway.

Some years back a friend was looking for a roof insert for his 32 Plymouth 3 window. I had a roof skin from a 1967 Suburban. We cut a few feet off the front & trimmed to fit. It worked out well.

Make yourself a couple of templates for the shape to take along to the wrecking yard. Two of my friends who have wrecking yards have "crusher rows" where they move cars that have been pretty well picked over to to wait for the crusher. Both let me cut filler panels out stuff in those rows real cheap as they have already sold everything that they figure they are going to sell off them.
If you aren't going to weld on it it doesn't matter much but some of the post 2K sheet metal doesn't take well to welding.

I did what @flamedabone did on his coupe. 2003-2007 Chevy/GMC hood. pickup, tahoe, or suburban. I think the chevy ones have a peak at the very front of the hood, where the GMC is perfect.

Newer sheet metal , I think is tempered . Acts a bit strange . Take your time measure it twice , cut once and slowly attach the panel . If you don’t have the time to do it right the first time , how in hell will you find time to fix the mess ?

Believe our neighbor used Volvo Wagon.

  26. I have used 60's-70's full size sedan roofs....those are getting hard to find. Most yards don't have anything older than the 90's. I noticed some extended cab trucks have a nice low crown roof that might work.
