The cam specs are similar to the hipo 289, but the had a higher rocker arm ratio. My 69 Boss had a service block, too.
Don't forget the BOSS 302 had HP 289 rods(5.15") with a special shorter piston Regular 302 were 5.09".......... so enters the "long-rod theory" debate! 6sally6
The 289 Hipo and B2 rods were slightly different- the 289s had a rectangular bolt head with a straight cut through the rod, while the B2 had a "football" head bolt, with a simi-circular cut through the rod
In all reality with the advancements in cam technology a roller cam would be the way to go. No worries of the cam going flat, oil compatibility, and the list goes on. Depending which way you go, a stroker even with aftermarket crank rods and pistons. Upgraded heads with the aforementioned roller cam. $$$$$$$$$$$$$
I bought a couple rods in 70 or 71 to replace ones with spun bearings in a 65 K code from a Fairlane. The parts book showed the replacement rod as a C9ZZ-B which was a Boss 302 rod. The details stuck in my head because, typical of Ford, the rods cost 75 damn dollars apiece 50 years ago.
Have you red the replies? To sum it up you dont belong here and you are dumb for doing what you are doing is the main idea
In 1971, a Boss 302 short block was $350.00, head castings were 48 bucks. The titanium intakes and sodium filled exhaust valves were $175.00. A Hilborn injector was $450.00. I know, because my Brother built one to run in a sand dragster. A couple years later the one I bought needed 4 rods, and new block. The bare block was $200. and the rods were $15.11 each.
May have been like me when I was younger, either go to NAPA or the Chevrolet dealer for parts. If NAPA didn’t have it, I had to spend 20 bucks at Chevy for a set of 8 plugs. Same damned R44TS plugs too. Lol
I like Ferds but yeah, you could build a heckuva hot rod motor with the cash that Boss 302 will bring. On the subject of stealerships, I don't remember the numbers but I slid my OT high school car backwards into a curb (long story) and bent the axle in the Dana 60 rear end. The young and dumb version of me ended up paying waaaaaay too much for that axle. When I had the bearing pressed onto it, the dude at the parts store asked if it was off a truck. Nope. A 4-sp R/T Ch@rg3r.
""you could build a heckuva hot rod motor with the cash that Boss 302 will bring"" Tried selling the one I have, no takers. Got to be strong enough for over 500 hp?
When I bought my OT Super Cobra Jet I contacted SEMO M****ng. They were great on the phone and knew what was what. All they specialize in is '69 and '70 M****ngs and even though they are a thousand miles from you, they can probably direct a customer of theirs who is dying to find a Boss 302 right to you. When I bought my hot rod, they had 3 customers with this car on their wish list and a price they would pay sight unseen.
