Technical 16 and 18" Wire Wheels

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Retson the Racer, Jul 1, 2021.

  1. Has anyone ran staggered 16 and 18" wire wheels?

I've got a buttload of 16" wire wheels and tires, and plan on running these 18's with 5.50 tires.

    Let see some pictures!

I put together a package for a customer that consisted of some 35 Ford 16 inch wires on the front and some 2 inch widened 32 Ford 18 inch wires on the rear with Excelsior radials. He's got about 600 miles on them on a 32 Ford rpu with no problems.

  3. That's killer. Have any photos?

@krylon32 How were the 18's widened? Did you do them?

  5. If it is bought and paid for, sounds logical to me. Especially if this is rpu or lakester, you really haven’t got anything you need to scale the wheels against for a certain look.

  6. This is a cutdown T touring on an 86" wheel base. It'll be a nitty gritty lakester made to race for RPM nationals and Trog

Corn Fed. I had Danny down at Bruce's Rod Shop in Texas do the job. He added the width to the inside so they looked stock from the front. He did a flawless job. The wheels are now on Dale Grau's new Green Hornet Deuce Lakester.

Running stock 16" wires on front of my 29 Phaeton project and 18" wires on rear that were widened 2" by Timmy at Wheel Works in NJ. He did a Super job.
