Technical 1961 falcon horn contact problems.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alteredpilot, Jun 29, 2021.

  1. Hey all, I'm putting a 61 falcon back together and I've got a little problem. There is too much gap between the horn contact and the back of the steering wheel. The steering wheel is seated on the steering shaft and there is about 1/4" gap between the wheel and the turn signal housing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Was the steering column removed and re-assembled before you installed the wheel? Check the mount under the dash and make sure it hasn't slid down away from the wheel. Should be old marks on the mounting bracket where it was originally assembled for reference. I had this issue many years ago with an old Ford but not certain this applies to Falcon.

  3. Loosen the two mounting brackets and slide the mast jacket up to where you like it.

  4. Yeah, that tube don't wanna budge. pretty sure the inner race on the lower bearing is frozen on the steering shaft.
