Hey guys I was looking on the web, but don’t see much information on these. Got a chance to save one and would like to know how many where made, and if ford parts to 48 will fit. Any info appreciated
Ford mechanical parts will interchange. The front clip is unique to 42-48 Merc, the balance of the sheet metal is common to both. The 42 Merc nose is somewhat different than 46-48 Merc's.
The guys now saying he has no reg and the tags are gone. So how would you know it’s a 42? Not really liking no tag idea.
My point is, a normal American style Mercury would have a 118" wheelbase but Canadian 114 cars have the shorter 114" wheelbase; at least the '46 to '48 ones. 1942 is a bit of an oddball since it is a one year only car and a really short production year at that. There is the World War 2 situation and since Canada was involved there in 1939, I am just as confused as everyone else about this car. Pictures would definitely help, especially of the front end.
@keith27T Well, it is the ‘sedan coupe’ with the longer doors and rear seating. The park light mounting holes on the upper leading edges of the fenders are correct for ‘42 and ‘46. The real clincher, the grille is missing. It could be a ‘42 or a ‘46, but there is more to consider than just that. Paperwork issues being foremost to solve. Then finding one year only low production parts….. Just curious about something that the Canadian HAMBers may know. What era did the Canadian FOMOCO vehicles start using the Meteor and Monarch nameplates? Ray
Tempting though. He only wants $600 for it. Its 350 miles away, but could probably get it here for 500.
Yah I no but don’t want to invest in it with no papers or tags. It’s not that easy to get here. Would have to go threw a lot of loops and then your taking a chance.
