    Hello,

Back when we were teens, there were car shows in the big auditoriums in So Cal. But, the ones that were the most fun were the ones happening in the neighborhood commercial business districts, supermarket parking lots, and high school football fields.

The local car club would have one in the largest parking area possible and sometimes there was a minimal charge to get inside the fenced car show area. Other times, it was free and the custom cars and hot rods never disappointed anyone.

    Jnaki

Those car shows gave us some great ideas for our own builds or at least something that could happen in our own backyard garage. The hot rods/customs were not full-on show cars, but rolled into place directly off of the streets. Daily drivers? Perhaps not, but they did drive to the car show parking lots and back home…

My brother had dual headlights on his 58 Impala, but they were not canted.
upload_2021-6-24_3-56-28.png Some even went as far as making the dual quad parking lights function for an added custom touch. Running with the so-called fog lights were against the law, anyway, so why not make them accessory dark road lights for a better night vision... which leads to my 1965 El Camino quad headlights.

I had dual headlights on my red El Camino, but they, too, were not canted. The inside high beam lights on the El Camino had special long distance bulbs installed for high desert, pitch black night driving. Those pitch black desert roads at night lit up like it was daylight.

Alas, they were deemed illegal by the CHP at a roadside vehicle check and I had to replace the stock hi beam bulbs back in place for a week, until the fix-it ticket was cleared.

But quad headlights did offer plenty of style and function, while still not being canted.

I have posted this ' 40 in the past. Could have been this thread. If so here it is again and it is very much worth repeating. One of the best examples of custom "canted headlights" I have seen.
It was in Olympia Wash., for sale. I went to buy it but the price was unreasonable, $70 K. Very nice owner, and he had a very nice collection of HAMB quality cars for sale also. That was a year before this virus crap, have not heard how he did on selling.

A prime example of why we need a "dislike" button.

The title of the thread says "poll" and dislike is my answer on this trailer queen.

  14. I stood by this 57 last weekend at Spokane quite a bit. I really liked the canted quads along with the Desoto Bumper

I'd don't know. Straight on, it looks like a woodchuck and even though we have Punxsutawney Phil here in PA, I don't care for this car. The OP did set this thread up as a poll. Yes! Yes and Maybe are really choices.

Larry, I think it could have been cool if you'd added one to each side making three in a row!

  22. Problem with them is when they're put into something and they look wrong...........they look REALLY wrong. There's no middle ground, either super right or super wrong. I personally HATE square quads of any kind.

In a F100 with the right grille.......super right.

  25. They were the styling fulcrum on which the mid-twentieth century customs tipped.
Back then, maybe we didn't exactly hate 'em or love 'em....... but we all gave 'em a long, hard consideration and some look-backs when walking on to the next exhibit. That says a lot, right there. They have "Impact".

  30. If you voted 'can't stand 'em', you're not a true custom guy.... sorry.

Larry, that is a perfect early '60s time capsule (except for the wheels/tires) and it's a shame it still doesn't look like that...
