Look on the flywheel for a number or casting and contact the manufacturer for application, WOHLERT DE MEXICO (Gear Manufacturing for Flywheel Assy)

The fly wheel looks like one we used to require for our round trackers. We called it a L-88 flywheel. Not sure if thats what it was, but it was so everyone could go get one at dealership. Not some super duper light weight job. Any results yet on the problem?

Chevy II's don't look any different than my C10's.

Yes, that was the L-88 15 pound flywheel, they were cast in nodular iron and were safer than the typical grey iron flywheel. I would imagine the Wohlert made in Mexico flywheel might only be grey iron.

  7. I have a Story when I had a Shop in Tuscon about 35 years ago
A guy came in with a Chevy for me to Fix , I told him the Water Pump was Bad
so I ordere'd one from my Parts House, when I went to put it on
It would Not Fit every Hole was Slighty off so I called the parts Supply
And they sent me Another one & The Same Problem.!
Finaly A old timer told me That the problem was the Engine was a
MEXICAN one which was different than the American one.!

    Just my 3.5 cents

So, did you get it running? What was the solution to your problem?

Probably lined up the dowel pin hole and found that it fits fine. But, he's embarrassed and doesn't want to post that.

He shouldn't be though, we've all been there, or very similar places with unfamiliar parts.

So update. Got the old flywheel back and here is a picture of the flange without it being on the stand. Tried rotating it as well... still to no avail.

    Attached Files:

  15. This might be a silly question,,,,,,but,,,that is a Chevrolet flywheel,,,right .
From looking at the bolt holes in the crank flange,,,the shiny marks around them.
It looks like one is in one direction,,,and another in the other direction,,and one offset to the inside toward the register ?
Am I seeing this wrong ?

  16. The hole nex5 to the dowel hole,,,,the shiny mark is around 9 o’clock on the hole.
The hole to the right of that one,,,,,the shiny mark is around 7 o’clock on the hole .
The hole to the right of that,,,the shiny mark is about 5 o’clock .
I enlarged the pic on my iPad and that’s what it looks like to me ?

    Does this one fit?

  18. Another silly question...but since there is no reason why it should not fit, here it is: You aren't trying to mount it on backwards are you? I do not know your experience so I thought I would ask.

How about a picture with the flywheel on the crank showing the offset of the bolt holes?
One other possibility: The holes line up but you have the wrong size bolts. SBC uses 7/16" - 20. Did you try the bolts in the crank flange. Could you have 12 mm bolts? Or 1/2" - 20?

You do know that some millennials are 40 by now, right?

They are not sitting in the backseat of mom's minivan, playing with a Gameboy, mittens tied to their snowsuits.

Witness mark on the flywheel matches the crank flange. He has to be trying the wrong bolts or keeps missing the sweet spot where all of the holes line up.

I’d put a dowel pin in it and remove any doubt. It’ll either fit or not.

I can try again after work today and upload pics of holes not aligning. Tried spinning it no set seems to line up. Yes I am putting the flywheel on the correct direction. Yes the bolts will screw into the flange without the flywheel being on it. When lining up the dowel holes a few holes are straight but then 1 or 2 are just far enough off that the bolt can't go in without being cocked at about 30 degrees (I don't want to crossthread anything.) My experience is not that of a master mechanic. I am sure the old block is a 68 block and a 350 that came out of the car. The car is a 63' the new engine block is a 63 but the crank is obviously 65-67. Again will mount it up and post more pics after 530 today.

How about ordering up a flywheel from the local parts guys for a 65-67. If it doesn't fit, return it. Then you would know for sure.

  28. I have definitely never heard of this issue and it sure doesn’t make sense. Curious to hear the final resolution.

That part number is a '63-'70 Chevy 153 tooth flywheel for 10.5" clutch.
