That is not original to the car.

What @the-rodster said. In '59 the numbers weren't referred to as vin's. That came later IIRC. Regardless something seems hokey. If that is the only number plate on the car I'd stay clear of it.

It's an English car, as in the Queen, England.
The VIN very well could be different on such a car. I for one know nothing on VINs, import, export and so on. I'm not qualified to have an opinion on the Ps and Qs of VINs pertaining to English cars. It could be right as rain.

    C Chester PA assembly plant
    G Custom 300 sedan

The rest is the serial number.

As mentioned, the tag is not original, although it could have the original number. We can only guess.

Could be the car was re-registered with a new vin tag for some reason. You could check the consecutive numbers on the frame rail and see if they match with that plate.

  10. .............Sounds fishy to me. A Galaxie 500 Sunliner with a Custom 300 Sedan vin. There's been some shady stuff in its' past somewhere. Be scared, be very scared.

I think on the passenger side, top of frame rail right below the firewall are the VIN#'s.

If it checks out to be correct you can get a new data plate made with all the correct paint, rear axle, interior trim codes made from several sources.

if you build an untitled car in missouri, you have to get it inspected by the highway patrol. if you pass, they affix a vin plate. maybe that's what this is?

59 Ford Vin tag.jpg Sounds like the "all restored" was all assembled from parts using the frame and title from a sedan.

The actual 59 Galaxy vin tag /id tag should look similar to this one.

There was a recent thread about someone needing a VIN on a car that originally just had a s/n. In order to import it properly.
This could be the same situation?
Only thing I can add in Ca a plate can’t have a screw holding it on, I went through that when getting a PU inspected , one rivet had let go, the CHP guy said to “get that screw out of there “.

  19. Looks like a tag bought on EBAY. I bet they bought a title also. My advice, RUN.

Too many red flags on that car for a guy to want to spend real money on it.

A year or so ago I bought some Model A parts from a guy in Riverside, CA. He was selling complete Model A's to oversea buyers. I asked him how he handled the paperwork on a Model A where the engine number didn't match the frame number (which is hidden by the body as most know) He showed me a vin/ID plate similar to the one posted in the OP. He said he stamped the number from the pink slip/certificate of title on the plate and attached it to the door post. Never had an issue exporting that way. I just shook my head to myself, paid for my parts, and left.

  23. It says VIN Number. So that's vehicle identification number number. Factories don't do things like that.

  24. Sure they do....bogus VIN tag factories do. Automobile assembly plants, no.

You mean there are two numbers/tags on the same car? Ouch.

In Texas you can do a frame swap like that legally. You have to have a title for both vehicles. They will merge the vins in their system showing them as one vehicle. One gets built, the other has to be scrapped. If the car gets inspected and they run both vins they come back to the same title number after the merge.

Sorry , photo wouldn’t load. But the other car was a different one but still with an odd vin number , seems like the numbers weren’t always as the vin checking site thinks

  30. One pop rivet, one Phillips head screw attaching it. RUN!
