Propeller shaft or prop shaft changed to drive shaft, cars never had a propeller, if it did it would be an amphibian. JW

For well over 60 years it has really -issed me when some self anointed "expert" has described a "scavenging air blower" (GM's term) as sucking the exhaust out of the engine. They push/pressurize the air on the diesels they were built for and as later adapted to hot rod engines.

motor mount is really an Engine Mount . Motor = electric

 

no service brakes, that would be, to differentiate from emergency brakes and even driveline brake ...unless you are from the school of no school where you spell it breaks....driveline breaks.

 

Or even Little Ends, naturally living opposite the Big Ends aka (Connecting) Rod Bearings.

Around here, a Welsh plug is mostly flat just slightly concave. The other style is a cup plug.

 

When I first moved to Kaleeforneea from NY, I was tasked with fixing some piece of construction equipment, and I said that a stick of Redi-Rod would work- they looked at me like like I spoke Swahili. Well, that was the common (and a brand) name for all-thread rod back East

 

"Frame off" restoration vs "body off" restoration. If you do a total restoration of a vehicle, you remove the body from the frame, you don't take the frame off the body. The only way to do that is to roll the car onto it's roof and then lift the frame off the body. "Body off" restoration is the correct terminology.

 

When I was stationed "over there", all the cars still had a smaller bulb, like what would be found in a 2 cell flashlight, below the headlight, er headlamps. Very low current draw so they wouldn't draw down the battery. These were called parking lamps. I think that's how the phrase started. When asked I was told it was common before streetlights became widespread, that when parked in towns people would turn these on when parked on streets.

not even sure what you would call it but the plastic surround on door handles and license plates in newer cars have searched and searched in parts depart computers ........ it’s called a Plinth !! Wth !!

Model T's had parking brakes on the rear wheels. Foot brake was a band in the transmission. The early ones were cast iron with NO linings. They were for parking only. Later ones got linings because after the axle seals started (continued) leaking the metal to metal shoes did nothing.

Brake shoes vs pads. Youngsters call brake shoes pads probably because they have only know disc brakes. Drum brakes use shoes, disc brakes have pads kids!

No problem with that conundrum. A rim is one component along with a center or spokes and a hub, when properly assembled comprises a wheel. My worst pet peeve but I labor in vain. Wheels ain't rims, kids and they sure as Hell ain't rimz

I always get a laugh when I hear "frame off" restoration and it's a unibody car.

They were fenders once when you could unbolt them. Our 40’chevrolet has rear fenders and are 56 Ford has quarters..

 

Who dreamed up the name Easy outs, nothing easy about it. HRP
