I don't know anything about "photoshop" but it looks to me like some of those photos are color pics turned into B& W. Am I wrong?

Start of a race through downtown Long Beach 1934 at the State Theater.

    Hello,

This old roadster race photo was sitting in my Long Beach files and it was brought up due to the fact that the building is no longer there. Its rich history is gone. The lot will be replaced by a giant 30 story resort hotel with a rooftop restaurant that will give diners a view to San Diego, the Big Bear Lake San Bernardino Mountains, Los Angeles, Catalina Island, and the farthest reaches Eastward. It will soon be a great place for a sunrise breakfast to a fabulous Summer sunset dinner.

But, it is sad that the old State Theater and building is gone, too. We used to take the bus downtown to see a movie, run around outside and go back across the street to do one last thing before heading home. The cool tunnel was called the Jergins Tunnel since the famous Jergins Trust Building was built above it.

Of all of the things that the city of Long Beach had was an underground (under the Ocean Blvd. West to East route) tunnel heading toward the ocean and the Pike. It was decorated in some pretty outstanding tile work and art. There were plenty of vendors and one of our favorite was to get a giant hot dog, fries, and Coke, before heading home. (or going to the Pike)

If it was summer, a movie upstairs in the State Theater was first. Then downstairs into the tunnel for a hot dog, fries, and Coke, then finally a stroll down the “Pike” for one last shot of entertainment. We could also catch the bus at the Western end of the Pike. If it was still early and plenty of Summer daylight left, we could still walk home along the L.A. River embankment.

The building was still standing in the 80s. The tunnel was perfect as the lowest level of the beachside property was level with the lower tiled steps and starting point on the downtown side of Ocean Boulevard.

Before the new 30 story hotel resort and rooftop restaurant will be built on this property they have to meet one of the criteria. The company will have to reconstruct the famous under the Ocean Blvd pedestrian tunnel that goes from downtown to the Pike /Sports Arena, while making it earthquake compliant.
