Technical Solid cam question sbc

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by stan by the vice, Jun 8, 2021.

  1. Hi.
This is another paint code camshaft question. No stamped numbers but, Blue/ Green color on the dist.drive gear and pink at the drive gear. Small red dot and maybee white dot under thecamgear. The lift is .443 Intake and .446 Exhaust. ( measured vith calipers) Is it somebody that can give me a hint on what cam this is. The engine had solid lifters.

443 seems real close to 30-30 cam but intake and exhaust were the same as I recall

"Specifications for the "(30-30)" cam are . 452" intake and . 455" exhaust lift, 229 degrees intake duration and 237 degrees exhaust duration (both measured at . 050" tappet lift) and 78 degrees of overlap (at 0 lift)."

Interesting spec's you have for a 30-30 cam. I've never known them to be a split pattern cam. The one's I've seen have been .485 lift I&E, 254 dur. @.050 tappet rise I&E with a 114 degree lobe centerline. Could it possibly be an LT-1 cam?

    Sleepers right ^^^....the "30-30" is 294/294° advertised duration, 254/254° duration @.050", ,485/.485" valve lift with a 114° Lobe Seperation.

The LT-1 cam was .459"/.485" lift, 242/254° [email protected]", and 116° Lobe Seperation
Basically the 30-30's exhaust lobe with a shorter duration intake lobe and wider lobe seperation to make it more docile for daily driving.

for the OP, Stan....I've got nothing in my GM lists with that lift.
Are you sure you measured an intake lobe and an exhaust lobe?? Because of layout, you have to skip a lobe, you can't measure the first two next to each other.

If you want to know exactly what it is, you can send it to someone with a Cam Doctor and have it all measured out, or you can put it back in the block and degree it, to reverse engineer the cam card info and learn what it is.

  8. Thanks, I will check the lift again and get back to you. The engine has ben stored since the eightees, no history but the pistons are 11:1 TRW forged so my guess is home built LT1.
