I never had one of those but I did have my Dad's lap. I couldn't reach the pedals but I sure could steer.

Dad worked as a Toyota Service Manager for a while in the 70's. Used to bring home a different car each week. Can still remember the Toyota Crown with the factory inbuilt fridge. Thought it was the classiest thing in the world.

there are cooled boxes in some modern cars iirc. so they did eventually take off. just after the hamb allows

I think that company is still in business, judging by the quality of drivers currently on the road.
