I just bought this '30 coupe and its got a 59a flatty and these finned cast heads. There not aluminum. The only marking I see is the OGE below the water neck. Is there anyone out there that knows the history of these and are these worth keeping?Just found out what they are. NEW PICS BELOW

Only surface rust. The only rot I found "so far" was lower rear quarter on the driver side underneath. Not visible. Back to the heads what does the OGE stand for ?

that looks waaay cool - one way to find out what they are worth - put em on ebay - you may find you just got 90% of your car done by selling those!

I've been collecting flathead stuff for a while. I'm picked up a set of Baron heads from Tony on his last batch. I've just been waiting for the right car to build.

The cast iron heads were known for cracking - Kogels and others. Folks still want them. I've been half-heartedly looking for a pair for a while now. They flow about the same as any of the other off-the-shelf aftermarket heads.

I took the manifold off earlier to check things out and noticed it had adjustable lifters on it. So I took out one valve off to see what they were, and there hollow. Does anyone know if there Johnsons ?

Kogel or Rocket heads are quite rare and in prime condition can bring sell over $500 a pair.
That being said, one really has to check them over for hairline cracks around the ends and the combustion chambers. I sold a set for a friend some ten years ago, and ended up having to give another friend back his money as when the paint was taken off them and they were media blasted they had very fine cracks around the ends. If they are sound run em, nd it not they mighty fine just hanging on the garage wall. Good Luck, Terry

The heads are being hot tanked and mag'd as we speak. I will know tomorrow the story on them. Im just stoked that its not just a stock mill and it looks like i might be able to pay for most of the build by selling these pieces off. These OG johnson's look to be in really good shape too. Maybe just regrind and go.

The Kogel HiComp heads came in two different compression ratios. I've got a pair on my 40 (48 block) with an Almquist dual intake with chrome 97's, Red's headers, Smitty's.

Yup, that was me. Great looking heads. Mine are off to the machine shop to determine if they’re going back on the engine, or hung on the wall.
