This was the first example of the world famous “Moon Eyes” logo. The T-Roadster wore the “00” number and once a pair of pupils were painted inside the numbers , an iconic logo was born.

Creighton Hunter had a T Roadster in the early days. Working with others, like Dean Moon had its advantages. The original title of the roadster was the Hunter Oil Roadster. In 1953, he sold it to Hill Acala and the Santa Ana based racer took it to some pretty outstanding records and races.


The Hill Acala Roadster continued to use the Hunter Oil Logo lettering and became the first vehicle to wear Moon Eyes. The roadster went all over So Cal to race others and made a name for itself in those days.

We saw it at Lion’s Dragstrip in 1959-60 and again at the 1960 Bakersfield Smokers March Meet. At Lions, they had relatively good success in its class. But in the eliminations of the Smokers Meet in Bakersfield, it came upon a pretty good opponent in the Speed Sport T Roadster from Arizona.

Then, in 2017, my Lion’s Dragstrip film was playing on the big TV Monitor just above the red roadster in the original museum grand opening.

1924 Model T Roadster was built by Creighton Hunter in the early 1950s

“The engine is as traditional as they come: a poked-’n’-stroked ’48 Merc displacing 296 ci. The Stromberg 97s were originally reworked by Ollie Morris and bolted to an Evans manifold over a Potvin 400 (later Moon) Cam that opens oversize valves closed with Lincoln Zephyr springs. A Harman and Collins mag fires the plugs in the Evans heads.”
