Getting some headway on my “other” temporary project! Hopefully soon I’ll be done, it’s looking good, turning out good.

I couldn’t believe that this carburetor actually made fuel go through! It was so full of sludge and dirt in brush hair and I don’t even know what the hell is in there! Couldn’t even see the Jets!
I’ll have to say, I’m real impressed with Carter/Edelbrock carburetor‘s! They are tough as nails!!!

I’m real curious to see how it’s going to run after I get this back together IMG_1704.JPG IMG_1718.JPG IMG_1706.JPG IMG_1719.JPG

It was a good thing though, the snap ring broke on the inside shaft were the synchro rides, and it was forcing the cone into the inside getting it really hot you can see the bluing.

The trans builders I watched used a red assembly grease to keep them stuck in place.

I use red and tacky, cause it's sticky. It's not magic and has worked on quite a few trans and lots of transfer cases.

    Thanks!
I got some really thick purple stuff we use at work!

I used on the transfer case, because of course they all fell out first!
I took everything off in sections because everything is cast-iron and heavy as hell, I guess I have to leave the adapter on the transfer case!
Der! I forgot the input gear is on it!
Trying to bench press all that stuff Up into there like an idiot!
Of course I got rid of my tranny jack adapter when I moved!

One roller/needle bearing was missing or lost. So I’m kind of proud of myself, I took a drill bit that was the same size as the missing one, and cut it down and made it fit, you couldn’t even tell! Plus I figure it’s hardened! Should be fine. (Red-neck engineering)
At first I was having fun working on this vehicle, but now I just want it the hell out of here!

    I’ve been learning Stuff!
Now I can do a C-4, early Ford, 3 speed, and a later Ford 3 speed!

I made a dummy shaft for the cluster shaft, made life a lot easier, plus the needle bearing kit I got they are slightly tight on purpose, so they can’t fall out, even without
The Grease. Put some in anyway.
(The Zip ties are so the shaft can not pop out on me again, while putting it in!)

    All Done!

Cant wait to get back to the Doll!”
(After a bunch of year long put off honey dos first!)
It was a good run though!
    Knew it would catch up!

Well. The tranny shifts real easy and smooth now... and the clutch works awesome... but... now it has whiny
    1/2/R
When I Downshift, and let off the gas, doesn’t do it under load or in third, so I think it’s probably that gear train and the Cluster shaft might’ve got worn a little bit from that snap ring being broken, and then the shaft being able to float a little bit, made its own sweet spot, so now that everything is fixed properly with new parts I think it’s sloppy just can’t see it with the eye!
    that’s my theory anyway.
I put 80/ 90 in it and it’s pretty whiny so I switched to 85 /140 and want to see if that might quiet it down a bit.
    IMG_1917.JPG
    I’m done screwing with it!!!

I was going to mention 75-140. 80-90 is too thin for those transmissions.

Well, it did quiet it down a little bit, and then also putting the trans cover and boots back on so it’s not going right up into my face! still whines but it’s not too bad it hasn’t changed in two days so I think it’s probably good to go it’s just the gears are old.
Shift smooth a child could shift it now!
And that diaphragm style clutch is real super easy to push.
i’m gonna finish cleaning the interior give it one more bath! Then I’m gonna sell it!!!

I should probably put the 85/140 in the transfer case also huh?
that 80/90 was thin like water when it’s hot

I can’t remember are you supposed to mix it with oil-that is in there or just use this? I think you’re supposed to mix it

I found it it’s 20%, and here’s one review off of Amazon I found it specific for my situation

I’m mostly talking to myself here, but I have a plan!
So the container I use to pump oil has all the measurement lines on it, instead of trying to figure all the amounts in each box,I’ll just put the 85/140 in there and then I’ll add 20% of the Lucas to amount in the container, and mix it all together really good and then drain all the oil, and just fill up all the gear boxes diffs, Transfer case, and the Tranny with the premixed amount
( like you do with 2 stroke)

    What do you think Matt?

Sounds like a plan! A great deal more scientific that I would I would have thought of. I woulda eyeballed it....

But I'm the guy who ran four bananas and half a car of engine restore in a ford 9", which worked marvellously by the way.

A classic car and no mechanical skills? That sounds like a recipe to get ripped off!(not by you Of course) but I have seen it a bunch in the off-road world.
