I always wondered about this and I thank you guys for clearing that up. It always puzzled me why it said that. When I bought my cross ram I dug through some old speed catalogs and Hot Rod mags where I came across the the advertisement. The date was usually 1966.
Weeand Weiand why-and It’s different that many other “WEI” words pronounced wee. And if I were making parts, and getting the name mispronounced I’d tell everyone too. Weiner - it’s not “why ner” that would be whiner. It’s wee ner. Weigand, a common last name is always wee gand. Never met a why gand. Then there’s weight, say why and not way and Weird, say wee and Then there’s Weimaraner ( dog breed) why ma ra ner. And Weinstien usually pronounced whine steen. He’s Just helping a bunch of gear heads get it right obviously needed. Now with wildwood brakes, elderbrock manifolds and the others,,,try telling them they are obviously somewhat illiterate. They won’t like the truth either
But I knew the awser Actually most call me Boss Yep we need to take up more back up space on the server.
I see a whole lot if cars out my way with Elder Brock parts on them. Not yet any with parts from Brock the Younger.
I work in a speed shop in Perth, Australia, we have an outer suburb called Ellenbrook. We get asked for Ellenbrook carbs and manifolds all the time
Read post 1. I knew the answer, I was looking for the back story. It’s basic reading comprehension. If you have a problem with me, man up and say something, if not, move along.
I just came up with a pair of these. So the block letter stuff was probably only made in the 50s? I haven't done any research as to when they started making v8 valve covers...then went to the Why And logo.
When I was younger, along about 1994 or so, I bought Weiand stuff because it was a little more affordable than Edelbrock. My first bracket race engine had a Weiand 7546 intake, I believe they called it The X-Celerator? It was an open plenum with a divider plate you could install in the middle. Years later (now), it reminds me of the first generation Edelbrock Torker. It was on a stock lower end 350 with 461 heads and a Lunati 292 Bracket Master cam with a Holley 650 Double Pumper. Sorry for the ramble, the post on Weiand caused a trip down memory lane. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I was told once by an old priest that it depended on whether it was upper German or lower German on whether you accentuated the 'e' or 'i' when pronouncing the names that were spelled that way.
Have to wonder though, if it was genius marketing on their part. Kinda like "...that thing got a HEMI ?" An early catch phrase, if you will. Instead of saying you're running Edelbrock (or whomever), "Say WEI-AND". Pretty clever.
That's what I was thinking. Was it out of frustration or was it for marketing? Either way, it has stuck and we are talking about it 50 years later.
Think I have one for a 383-400 mopar motor with the divider plate installed.... I gotta look for it one of these days....
they are. that pic is actually pretty old, but i still run the fentons, or at least i was up until a few weeks ago, swapped out for some chrome steelies so i could run 15's with taller tires.
I've got a NOS "say why-and" dual quad early Olds manifold that I bought from Gratiot 50 years ago. I still don't know how to say Gratiot.
I’d love a set of these for my 409 but hoarders keep hiding them! Meant to be used! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
