Basic stock ride height accented by big rear { 28 to 30 inches} and little fronts {about 26 inches} says it all. If i have to worry about my oil pan or exhaust hitting pavement I am not interested. Forgive off topic wheels and tires { borrowed from my off topic 67 Mustang} My 64 Marauder is in my opinion perfect ,and my 51 compared to a 49 mild custom I did is again perfect, as well as the 34 I built
I like them all when well executed, but generally lets say nose down and big and littles till about 1935, then tail dragger till after the early 50’s, then gasser till we run out of the hanb timeline. So in the virtual stable we would have a 33 ford fenderless coupe - for running on the salt, 35 taildragger slant back coach- plymouth or ford- for weddings and other formal occasions, maybe a low51 victoria- for errands and groceries, then a nose high 55 chev or ford- for nostalgia drags, and an early falcon gasser, maybe 62 with red windows and red headlights, just because. Still need a shop truck, and open car for getting ice cream, dare to dream.
Hello, Bigs, littles using real American Racing Equipment 5 spoke Torq-Thrust wheels, a nice lowered Cal Rake stance made this 32 Vicky pretty cool. It had the race car attitude, but was still a custom hot rod for daily driving. This 32 Vicky had the look, a 2 inch chopped top, bigs-littles, SBC, American Mags, deep, dark brown color, all made the sedan stand out on the road and car shows. This 32 Ford “Vicky” was one of many daily drivers owned by So Cal local, Norman “Rabbit” Samuels from Long Beach. He had lots of involvement in the hot rod scene and drag racing circles during those early days of Bixby Knolls cruising and racing at Lion's Dragstrip. As I have gotten older, my ideas have changed. At first I didn't like Neal Young now I kinda do. Now I prefer cars that aren't so low. I like to see the whole tire on most fiftys cars. I have gotten tired of shit dragging the ground. Like I said I'm old.
Mine hasn't spoken to me yet. Maybe because it came to me with some godawful oversized meats on it anyway. But I'd like to lower it about 2 or 3 inches all around. Long lakes on the rockers will help the look some too. IMG_6771 by dmikulec posted Oct 18, 2020 at 1:41 PM
I like a sneaky slight nose down rake, with a subtle rubber rake factored in. I’ve never liked the exaggerated “cartoon” rake so many prefer. I also don’t like front tires tucked way back in the fender. It always looks to me like the car way built with some arbitrary drop, and then they tried to fit wheels and tires to it later. Or that they are never moved it outside during the build to check the look from a distance. I spend a lot of time figuring out the rake and wheel / tire combo early in the project, and then build around that. I once had a new neighbor think I was a complete loon as he watched me perch an OT El Camino on three floor jacks in my driveway, and spend several hours fiddling with ride height using cardboard cutouts of an assortment of tire sizes, and a homemade version of the tool to simulate backspace etc.. But it looked perfect (to my eye) when it was finished.
I have never heard of "stink bug" or "pounce", but I've always liked what I heard was the "california rake", or "rubber rake". As low as possible in the front, normal in the back.
I thought the larger diameter rear tires were to jack up the rear end ratio.. You really should find out that the rear end ratio is and go from there..
I gotta ask, do you prefer more like the grand sports or stock? 6 tail lights is kinda a hotrod thing for the early corvettes so you have me wondering. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Depends on the car and type it is. My 40 I like lower and slight lower front. My drag car higher muscle car look.
