Like the looks of a natural canvas but that’s all I know. I bought some sunbella stuff that’s on its way used for boats and umbrellas. Is 8 oz not meaty enough? Any suggestions? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The original material would have been artificial leather, A.K.A. oil cloth. Modern material can be had in vinyl or canvas. Best quality top material would be from Snyders or Brattons. You need the padding and tacks, drip rails, etc. which can be had there, too. These are the two best sellers of quality Model A stuff.
Sunbrella Should work fine. It has a 10 year warranty for the marine canvas. It would be very similar to using convertible top material that a lot of guys use. You will still need all the other stuff as Glen said.
It's been a good number of years now from 2014,an my Sunbrella is still good to go.!! I do keep my roadster in my garage when not running around. I did a "Tech" on when I did it an how; https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...top-a-how-too-do-it-tech.857951/#post-9479688 Model A bobtail roadster 1928
I bought the vinyl? top material for my coupe from Snyder’s, Mike’s Affordable, or another one of the common Model A shops. Only have 600 miles on they car, but the material is nice. As you may know the tops were originally affixed with tacks to the top wood. The wood isn’t always up to the job after so many years. Might toss a wrench into the replacement, so don’t forget to plan that out too. John
Thanks for the reply guys! I’ll evaluate this stuff on the way and at least build a top with it for experience and go from there. I was on a duck army web and saw some stuff that is UV and water resistant plus no shrinking. May look into that also. I’ll keep you posted . Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I have a kwik top frame from speedway and probably duplicate the roadster video MECA has on YouTube. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
