Hi all, I need a little help identifying the sb chebbie I just aquired. The # on the block is V0308HV. My motor manuals id the engine by the last two letters but they don't show an HV. The guy I got it from thought it was a 327. I'm leaning more towards a 350. The price was right so it doesn't matter either way, just kinda want to know what I have for sure. Thanks.

Thanks guys, was having a heck of a time finding out what motor it is. The only bummer is the heads were changed to open chamber 1.94s. Can't complain though it runs sweet now I gotta get it cleaned up and put in the 51.

I think the heads on there now are better for street use. I prefer them myself, seem to have a bit better bottom end.

Check the casting number on back of drivers upper block and look at this site. www.mortec.com

Well curiosoty got the best of me last night I decided to pull a head of the motor, a few things didn't look right. There was no breather can (not sure of correct name) in the lifter valley and the oil filter was a spin on and the pistons wern't 11.1, So I checked the rear block numbers on moretech.com like Hotrodderman suggested. It came out a 68-69 302, 327 or 350. Well I know its not a 302 no 4 bolt mains, I measued the bore its .40 over so its either 327 or 350. I don't really want to pull out a rod to check, thanks for all the input.

if you have a head off the stroke is real easy to check..a 327 has a 3.25 stroke and a 350 a 3.48

could be a 350 block that was restamped to make it look like a vette motor?

I'm thinking the same that the #s were restamped who knows with an old engine. Makes for a neat mystery.
