I got 1956 olds engine in Japan. It was sitting junk yard, about 14 years. Oilpan(flange) condition is bad very much. I need some new parts(oilpan, bolt set) Can I buy them newly? (where ?) I want to rebuild it really. please tell me olds info.
awesome find nori...i am not sure if you can buy the replacement parts brand new or not, but i will keep my eyes out for parts to help you out...again..cool find and good luck with the rebuild.
Is that a 303 Rocket engine? I have parts for that engine including the oil pan, heads, intake, carb, etc. from a 53 Olds. The valve covers, heads, and crank pulley look the same as mine. Travis
www.kanter.com has rebuild parts some say expencive etc but they got alot, and check ebay for oilpan if you dont find it elsewhere... best regards daemon
[ QUOTE ] Is that a 303 Rocket engine? [/ QUOTE ] Nope, in '56 it would be a 324. Last year for them, too.
Nori, http://www.fusick.com have some of the parts listed in their catalog, you can dowload it in a PDF file from that site.
Great find Nori! It never ceases to amaze me how guys can find old cars overseas like that. It's weird how the oil pan flange is gone like that. Out of all the Olds pans I've got all the flanges were good but the sump area was always beat to death. Kanter is a good source for parts. Also pick up a copy of Hemming's if you can, another good source for Olds parts. I forgot to ask, did that tranny adapter come with the motor?
Did the Offy tranny adapter come with it? Looks to be one to mate a 49- 64 Ford tranny. That's Kick Ass.
Damn, good score, the 303 parts should fit. So did you get the car ??? it looks pretty fine too, why is it all those boat loads of used cars you send to NZ that didn't manage to be aboard any of them ??
yes, I got only an engine, of course I wanted all. but stranger took a car,I'm sad. Other cars were piled up on olds. owner was US army(long ago).Olds has no Japanese title .
hey great find!! hope it works out for you.the 303 parts will most generally work except the balancer is different.if you find you need any stock parts let me know i might have something laying around.good luck!! eric
I would love to see that olds choped and in black/grey primer! Nice find... How are you going to customize this? Original, lead sled, Rat Rod??
Hey 56oldsdriver, you're jumping into a conversation without introducing yourself. Go here and say hello... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 Then start a new topic to ask questions. Also use the search function, there's a few WI HAMBers, and there should be plenty of olds 88 info. Looks like you've got a nice car there.
KON-NI-CHI-WA Yes I continue, my motor is progress a little. inside condition was no good. chamber has many traces by broken valve . got some..harst front mount, lower flywheel housing, small parts.. I have to look for some parts yet. Distributer , Starter, tranny parts. Rocketing is so long. I think.
Exellent, cool you are still going ahead with this, its often not so easy building this kind of stuff when you arn't in the US.
Nori, I was in Japan for 12 years. Are you near a U.S. military base? When I was in Yokosuka we used to help out the local rodders with magazines and tech info. I did a lot of work on a pair of Camaro's that belonged to local Yakuza as their office was just down the street. If you meet with the local America-jin they will help you out. On the Yokosuka base in 1995 there were a couple of cars parked behind the Shipyard repair facility there. One was an Olds but I don't recall the year. It might be the same car. There may be a couple of cars still on the Sasebo base. You guys have to realize what Nori is up against in Japan with a "Foreign" car. Although I think he has just the engine. Almost imposible to regester it. I had a souped up Datsun pickup. Every year I had to pull the engine and put the stock engine back into it just to get it inspected at the Land Tax Office. And that was a Japanese car. If a service man brings a car over he has to keep it for three years and then can sell it. If the title ever lapses thats it. Can't bring it back, as far as I can tell, ever.
Yeah no kidding, we grumble about registration hassles here in the US, but we have it good compared to most. Keep us posted Nori!
Hey Nori, Good find! Congratulations! I am building a '56 Olds 324 engine also. It is for my '40 Ford coupe. I think I saw a piston marked ".060" in the pictures. That means that they are .060 inch oversized of course. My engine is bored to 4".That is no problem for a 324. Post a parts wanted for the Olds pan on HAMB.I got a '56 oilpan from a guy on the HAMB.I don't know how much shipping is,but it's a source. The new Speedway catalogs have new pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets and even oil pump rebuild kits for the 324. Look on the center exhaust ports of your for a large #10. That is the 9.25:1 compression ratio heads. Many people say these are the best '56 heads. Good luck and keep the reports coming!
