I have toured marks garage and I still don’t believe it’s real. The best part of marks place is mark himself!!!!!!!!

  2. Maybe a topic for a new thread, without interfering with this one. How many Hambers have visited Mark and all his cool stuff? Like a sign up sheet, or H.A.M.B. banner, signed by visitors to Moriarity's home and garage. I remember povertyflats telling me about his awesome visit, back a while ago.

Not sure what I envy most, all the cool stuff, or all the neatness the cool stuff is in.
Heck, takes me an hour to find my finger brake. Lol

    Thanks for the tour Mark.
Wow. Much more than I expected.
Your attention to detail and memory just amazes me. But your talent blows me away. Your experience has to be extensive.
What led you to be so?
Would you give some background of history? your education, family, profession and experience?

I have never been any good at tooting my own horn.
I got my first car (55 chev ht) at age 12. My dad always had and was fixing up old cars so it seemed like the thing to do. I right out of high school went to vocational school for auto mechanics and worked in the field for 10 or so years at which point I switched careers and got into manufacturing. My last job was at Skyline Displays (trade show display mfg) where I was a self taught tool and die maker/ repair person/maintenance man/ jig and fixture maker....

As far as body work and paint, I was too cheap to pay anyone else to do it, so I figured out how to do it myself. I have friends in the auto body industry and I asked them a lot of questions and help on my projects... and probably like a lot of other people I used the old trial and error method with most things. you would be surprised how many attempts were made at some things before I was happy enough with the outcome..

I will have to say that one of the most valuable resources that I have that got used over and over is my vintage magazine collection. I got my first subscription to Hot rod magazine at age 12 in 1972. The how to and tech articles in the old books are and were valuable tools.

One last thing, The first time I was introduced to the "nostalgia" part of the car hobby was when I attended the KKOA leadsled spectacular car show in Des Moines in 1982. I went as a passenger in my buddies 1950 merc. Seeing all of those customs done up in the 50's and 60's style really got to me, so much so that as soon as I got home my 55 chev was transformed from a "street machine" (center lines, no front bumper etc) into a tail dragging whitewall and fender skirt wearing mild custom, and ever since then I have resisted all of the modern fads and hate "modern stuff" on old cars. Yes sir, no radial tires electronic ignition or fuel injection for me. That is why the Hamb suits me perfectly....

  19. Memory failure on my part. Happens everyday, now. Is the 61 Impala still around? Have I left anything out besides the jillion small items? :)

Aww those West Bends are beauties..... I always thought that they were the prettiest of the GoKart engines. That red kart is just flat beautiful. 8 lug Pontiac style wheels, oh yeah.
Remember when every indoor car show had a bunch of custom karts?

  30. You missed a good time. I scored an aluminum Buick block that night. @Moriarity we may come up for BTT50s now that some of things have changed. Depends on Lavins cousins situation, our free room on the river.
