Does any one know what Jacobs used to paste hotrod magazine pages on this tub. I guess it was glue and clear coated after. I remember long ago there was a article about it and I can only find photos.
Want to try this for my project.

  2. I think they used a process known as decoupage.

From the web: Découpage glue – specifically for this craft and available from craft shops. It is perfect as it can be used as both glue and varnish. Try a specialist glue such as Aleene's instant decoupage water-based glue, sealer and finish. PVA glue – all round glue which dries clear and sticks paper, card, fabric, wood and metal.

Available at stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby.

Do you really want to do this? Early pictures of Jake's tub show the decoupaged images compared to later pictures show the pages really turned yellow later.

I remember seeing it at the Petersens museum many years ago. An interesting piece of 70s Hot Rod history.

Looks to me like they fucked up an otherwise decent looking A Bone...even though the red was brush-painted.

  9. When I first saw that I thought it was fantastic. A couple months after seeing it, I did sorta the same thing to a T Bucket I was just finishing up. BUT, I used those T bucket plans that CCR used to sell for ten bucks. Any questions about my car, I just pointed to the body and told them they could read all about it. Saved me from spending a lot face time with 'Goobers'.

  10. You have to know Jake to appreciate this rod.

  12. What? That car is iconic and the "Jakopauge" was genius. I'd even say the aging of it makes it even better.

I like it. The car is fun, and isn't that what this whole thing is about? Might be a little over the top, but there are plenty of ways to take a car too far, and lots of them are done every day. This one was the first to have paper art plastered on the sides, and no other has bested it yet.

Well, we can all agree that aging makes wine and Linda Vaughn better. For almost everything else, aging makes us wiser. This is the Emporer's New Tub. OTOH, it's his car, he can/could build it like he likes.

I think @Pete Eastwood was involved. maybe he will chime in... and to all you people saying they ruined a car, they were having fun, isn't having fun with cars supposed to be what this hobby is about?? also I am going to change the title to "Jake's tub" nobody knows who the hell jacob is.....

  20. It was something done in a moment in time that worked. Kinda like the first fake patina guy. After that, just cheap imitations. At the time it was a middle finger towards the hobby and industry

If you knew, or met Jake, you would understand the car.

I was a teenager when I first seen the magazine where they were brush painting it. I thought that looks like fun. Everyone is so serious about building the next big thing and he was having fun. Then when I seen them jakopauging it I thought it was even cooler.
People need to lighten up and have some fun.
