That sounds like it could work, just gotta figure some sort of bearing/bushing for the column to move up and down in.

Steering yoke is from a Grumman S-2 aircraft introduced in 1954 so just about right... should pass HAMB inspection:D

Agree well done on the roll cage, very hard to get right by hand.

Made some good progres with the roll cage this week, made a arbour to mount hole saws in my mill and set about fishmouthin.

Works well, set up and clamping is a bit slow but it does the job.

I have had some success holding tubes together for tacking by running a loose loop of wire around the longitudinal tube and hose clamping it to the cross tube, then twisting the wire with a pair of pliers to tighten it.

  9. You asked a bit ago of any progress pics, well i got one. JW

Thats a good idea I've done that with hose clamps and small angle brackets but with a bit of wire wouldn't need so many hose clamps.

Looking good you going all tube chassis? its reminding me of the Tom Beatty tank already. Have you decided on an engine yet?

  12. Was always going to be a Willys 4 as im a Willys guy from the mid 70's. The one i got is a 46 Jeep motor. Main reason for the Jeep is the counter weighted crankshaft. It's 63hp standard and 134cid so it should be able to do something reasonable with a bit of a warm up. JW

  14. Yes, all the chassis will be tube as the SCTA states it can have no flex and must be rigid. I was going to do like you did but it was easier for me to go tube. I'm all fired up for more progress on mine and your 's is good inspiration.:D JW

Have been real busy with work last couple of weeks so not posted much but been piecing the roll cage together, this rear section had to be fully welded as it butts up to the firewall so would have been neigh on impossible to weld once fitted.
    Tank65.jpg
Got the main part of the roll cage all in now, still gotta do some leg protection and put a hoop in for the steering colum /dash mount.
    Tank66.jpg
With the cage in place I finaly cut the front top section, think it looks mean even if i do say so myself.

I wasn't sure if it would be low enough to run a canopy which is my plan, but looks like it will work fine.

Will the top front come off for entry/exit? Is the cockpit hole at finished size? I'm concerned about getting out if the skin gets wrinkled. I'm sure you have a plan.

  30. This is from the SCTA (2019) rule book so not sure of the requirements in the UK but i would think safety is safety wherever. Posted as many following here would not know. JW
