19eddy30, that's what I was thinking, the Borla dragster mufflers. Lippy

Or 4 inch snuff or nots. A 4 inch washer will quiet it down. Just drill a hole in each side of the pipe, stick a bolt all the way through and weld a washer on the bolt then you can open and close it. Lippy

I put a Dr Gas X pipe on my 55 Chevy. Their claim was you could reduce the exit pipe size quite a bit without restricting flow. You might contact them about your application. Lots of good options at 3" diameter

Tell me how much room you have, maybe we can build some that work and fit.
Are they going to be in the stock location? Rear?

Hard to believe you have 4” exhaust starting at the header flange but Truckpipes.com have 4” inserts and if it is actually 3-1/2” before the muffler Patriot sells augers and I’ve used them.

I was thinking about the auger baffles as well, but I don't see them in 4", so didn't post them. If 3.5" that would work.

you never go racing, so that makes the easy way out, not feasible....

I have a car that has been in the 9s, similar period to your car, also blown, but I take it drag racing, and don't really worry about how fast it is on the street. When I race, I remove the full out the back 2.5" exhaust system, which has nice quiet "cadillac" mufflers, and run the 3.5" collectors open. When I drive on the street, it's really quiet with those smallish pipes, tailpipes, and big mufflers.

Too bad you can't do something like that.

And it just ain't gonna be quiet until you figure out how to put tailpipes on it.

  11. Jim - do you have a manufacturer on the Caddy mufflers?

The 4” exhaust came on the car when I got it. I’m not opposed to going to a smaller dia. Thought I’d see if it was workable but that looks like a slim chance.

I'm tired of noise, my ears are ringing and I'm over 70 with no need to impress anyone. My SS Borla's just came in yesterday (made in USA) from Jegs. I want to listen to the stereo in my 57.

yes, I looked, that's the right number. And 2.5" tail pipes are not too difficult to find room for...depending on your suspension, of course.
