What the hells wrong with you Larry...it's a school bus for craps sakes.
You certainly don't want to distract the children away from their "cop-hating rappers" and their "murder -filled video games.;)

No offense taken. Just never cared for the magazine or the owner of the company.
Yes the symbol was everywhere back in the day. I think they even did some race car sponsorship.
Back to the car. While I am waiting on the rear end parts I have been cutting and buffing the paint.
A lot of work, but worth it .
Getting ready to order a Theunderbolt tear drop for the hood. It will allow me to build a big enough air box to run the 5 inch hose to the carb or 2 carbs if I can save up enough money for the manifold and 2 more carbs.

    Do rules allow tunnel-ram intake?

I wish, but no it has to be a dual plane. Blue Thunder makes a high rise 2x4 intake that takes Holley carbs. It is $ 645.00 and that is not in the budget at this time. Plus I would need 2 carbs and linkage and fuel lines.
With (2) 1 inch spacers it would be like a mini tunnel ram. It would probably boost my top end power by 30-40 horsepower over what I have now.
I am going to see how it goes next weekend in Alabama. If the car hooks like I hope it will I may go to a 6.33 gear to wring it's neck a little tighter to get some more out of it.

Ive got the thunderbolt hood off of my car that we arent running, it has a hole cut in it that our stacks stuck through but it could be patched, if you think you could make it work Ill cut you a deal on it.

Both ! Those t shirts are worth at least a tenth. I plan on bringing out hard with my new set up if it works the way I hope . Just in case we are taking the slapper bars and I can have them on in about an hour. So we will make a pass on Friday night to check it out. That will give me all day Saturday to bolt them back on and put the weight back in.

I just watched the video of Holt Florida and your car spends so much energy pushing the rear suspension down, You need to get the instant center out farther. I don't think springs alone will help, are you going to install the Caltrack bars or ladder bars maybe a four link?
If you watched all the other cars, body lift isn't as severe or as violent as yours.

I'm curious about how much air pressure you run in your slicks? Drag radials have problems like this because they run a higher air pressure than slicks. The higher air pressure makes the tires bounce on the hit.

I have an OT street/ strip mopar that has 60' times in the 1.3 second range.
I believe that the problem with your rear suspension is the location of the front spring hanger. 20210501_022126.jpg
If you were to lower the spring hanger by 2" it will move the instant center forward and lift more toward the front of the car, this will take away the radical lift you are experiencing but still give you enough to plant the tires. If you have ajustable shocks you can slow down the extension. But I believe that the spring hanger will change what has been going on.

If you do use the slapper bars extend them so they contact the spring eye.

Got the rear end back together yesterday on my break from work. I need to fill the rear with fluid so I can check the ride height to see if I need to make spacers. Hope not, but that's just part of it.

Good news. I got the car back down on the ground and with the tires set and me in the car I gained an inch of ride height in the back.
Now when I take the weight out it will be good to go. I am figuring on being able to take out about 65 lbs of ballast . I lost 25 lbs in just the weight of the springs. Then I added the pinion snubber and removed the slapper bars. I will have to weigh the car and then start adjusting when we get to Alabama and run across the official scales.

Watched the finals from Shadyside. Seems they are getting a little carried away with the hood scoops.
Starting to look more like Modified Production than Super Stock. HaHa

I know what you mean about the hood scoops. the Dirt Man team cars all are running 440 sixpack hood scoops which are not period correct and the other Comet is running an oversize Boss 429 hood scoop.
I tried to get them to loosen up the intake manifold rules so it would be more like Modified Production, but keep the spec tire rule. I would love to see what my car could do with a tunnel ram and and 2 660's.
I am still looking for a dual quad Holley inline intake for my car. It is a hard pill to swallow buying a $ 650.00 intake and then start porting it . I know that on somebody's shelf in their garage is an old dual quad intake that they haven't ran in 25 years. I will find one .I just have to be patient.

I've got this F-28 on the shelf if it would help. I think it's brand new, doesn't look like it's ever been used or molested. I think it's for the 289-302. I have no plans to use it, PM me if you want it.

Talked to Edelbrock's tech line and they got a kick out of what we were doing in the super stock class.
They didn't have a clue that we even had a super stock class. He told me I really need a tunnel ram. I told him that I know that ,but we can't run one so would the F-28 manifold work.
He said a lot of porting would be needed.

I spent some time with some very knowledgeable ford people yesterday and they said the only manifold they would use would be the Blue Thunder with 2 Holleys.

The car really liked the Calvert springs and my 60 ft. times showed that , but it is time to pull the top loader out and file the burs off the shifting lugs. I had to get completely out of the the gas to get it to go into the next gear. In fact my last pass it never came out of second. and I was forced to just push the clutch in and coast across the finish line.
I will be pulling the transmission today. Anybody want to step up and buy me a Gforce or Hightower.. I will give you a t shirt and your name on the car. :)

Forgot to post this really cool picture. I didn't realize I had my phone in my pocket.
We were waiting to make our first pass on Saturday. I took it while we were getting ready. Also here's one of my buddy fiddle picker out the side window. 20210508_135027.jpeg 20210508_135043.jpeg
