Thinking of going with AR torque thrust wheels on my AV8. the only 16" ones I find are 8" wide. Are 5" wide wheels available?? I have 6:00 16' on front and 7:50 16,s on rear. The 7:50 would probably be OK with the 8" wheel but I am not sure of the fronts. An 8" wheel seems awfully wide for a full fendered AV8.

    Eric Vaughn can narrow them.

I think you’ll have a hard time with 7.50’s trying to use an 8” wheel. The 5” would be a better fit. As mentioned, narrowing is a possibility but if you really want TT’s you’d likely be better to go to 15” based on overall cost.

I love TT's, but I don't think they're the right look for a flathead AV8. By the time TT's came out in the 60's the flathead was quickly being replaced by OHV engines. It's an odd match IMO.

That's what I was trying to avoid going to 15" tires. Not sure how they would look on a full fendered Model A. Does anyone have pics of theirs using the 15" wheel???

    Hello,

Here is a Model A with 15 inch American 5 spokes. Look at the overall photo, then look at how it fills the front fender. That looks well balanced in the overall design. It does not look like someone "skimped" on the narrow rims. Usually, narrow front rims were used for drag racing coupes and sedans in the time period you are thinking. Most were fender less.

If you want somewhat authentic look, stay with the street versions for a complete 5 spokes the way you found them. They give the deep dish look and they are original to the design.

Personally, I do not like the shiny version, but that is your choice.

I'd go to 15" TT's, but in the new TTO versions. They are designated as Torq Thrust Old Style, and have a more traditional spoke shape than most the other modern TT designs. I put 5" TTO's on the front of my current project, and 8.5" on the rear with pie crust slicks. Mine are as cast centers with no coating.

X2 if you do go with the 5 spokes, use the straight spoke design and cast finish.

Thanks...I do not like the shiny centers either and would go with the darker spokes. Do you know the width of the wheels on the blue coupe you pictured??

Here's mine with 15s on it.
5.60-15 on 15x5 wheels up front and 8.20-15s on 15x8 in back. I'd like to get the rear down a little but that last inch or so won't be so easy.

    Hello F,

It was a long time ago and the 4 rims came in a set from Moon Equipment. The American Racing Equipment Torq-Thrust Wheels were the standard for street, which was probably 7-8 inches. I could be wrong, but, it was one of those happy moments of purchase, mounting, balancing, alignment, and then huffing off for another long road trip for more photo shoots.

It was a happy time period. If I looked at those rims, again, they look wide.

If you stay with the street use normal width, like the ones on the posted, Model A, it won't matter if you have a Flathead or not. If you have skinny ones, you are trying to emulate drag racing cars. So, the choice is up to you.
upload_2021-5-6_11-27-39.png This first 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery had a Flathead motor. I really wanted to put on some American Racing Equipment Torq-Thrust 5 spokes, but they were so far out of reach for my empty pocketbook and measly bank account. I stuck it out with simple black paint and small hubcaps/beauty trim rings.

I bought them direct from a place called Ron's Rims in Fairview, Pa. I just called and told them I couldn't find the TTO's locally in the configuration, and size I wanted, and the salesman set it all up for me. I paid with a credit card, and in a week all 4 wheels were at my door free shipping. Never had such a smooth easy purchase in my life.

I’m not sure, the 15” rears came off my 72 el Camino, the fronts are 14”s of Japanese origin. Here is a better picture E784446B-9E31-46A3-8A1C-7846C9437947.jpeg 1FD118A5-FBCF-4A68-A5ED-1E79B940699B.jpeg 89F5B34B-ED0E-49B6-82B2-CE7A594B57C4.jpeg AFF37229-08A3-44C4-9117-CE22F6BBD5EE.jpeg

Most of the early TT's, both the straight spoke and D spokes, were 6". I have had several sets including the ones on my 40 and, all the narrow ones were 6". I have run 165-15 radials, which are about the same size as the 560-15 bias ply's, and they fit great.

  25. I have new 15 x 5 TTO (VN3095561) straight spokes on the front of my car. Look old style but have new size caps. I got them through Jegs in a few days.
